1. Accessibility Errors with PDF Maker Update Sept 2021

   Several major bugs have been documented by users in the Adobe Community Forums since Acrobat and PDF Maker were updated on September 14, 2021.

   They are:

   1: Alt-Text from MS Word is not converting into the PDF. Instead, it is dropped and gibberish code is inserted. See https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/alt-text-converting-wrong-from-word-to-pdf/m-p/12393017 This violates the PDF/UA-1 standard which requires that every graphic have alt-text that verbally describes the graphic.

   THIS IS A HUGE BUG. You essentially have made Acrobat unusable for those who are required by their country's laws to make fully accessible PDFs.

   2: Every cell border on every table cell is being tagged as:
   <P>PathPathPathPath. This violates PDF/UA-1 because unnecessary visual formatting is not being tagged at Artifacts.

   NOTE: To be correctly tagged per PDF/UA-1, the borders/shading content should:
   — Not appear anywhere in the Tag tree, either as <Figure> or as "Path" in a yellow content container box.
   — Not appear in the Order panel.
   — Should appear as Artifact in the Content panel.

   6: Dragging and dropping elements in both the Tag and Order panels is now broken.

   The text cursor doesn't show anymore, and the little black line doesn't show anymore and instead appears several inches away from where it really is.    And finally...
   7: Once this update is installed, users can't revert back to a previous version of PDF Maker because Adobe doesn't allow that in Acrobat like it does with other Creative Suite applications.

   So once the update is completed, it makes PDF Maker completely unusable for tagged accessible PDFs.

   This affects millions of your government customers world wide, as well as millions of government contractors and millions of academic customers...all of whom are required by their country's laws to make accessible PDFs.

   2 sets of sample Word and Matching PDF files are submitted as demonstrations of the problems in the exported PDFs via PDF Maker.

   Would like to mention that out of these, #1 and #6 were introduced with the Sep 14 update and remaining (#2, #3, #4 & #5) were present even in the Acrobat version prior to Sep 14 update. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by these issues.

   Issue #1 and #6 were the regressions introduced with Sept 14th update and hence were fixed on priority with Sept 29th Update (Release Notes for September 29, 2021). With the latest version (22.001.20085) of Acrobat Pro DC released on March 7th (Release Notes for March 07, 2022), issues #2 and #3 have also been fixed. Issues #4 and #5 have been partially fixed so that PathPathPath tags won’t be part of the tag tree anymore. The remaining issue for #4 and # 5 (Borders and background shadings on Text Boxes / paragraphs are being tagged as <Figure>s) have already been added to our product backlog and those will be prioritized to be fixed in coming releases.

   You can use the menu item Help → Check for Updates… to get the latest version of Acrobat Pro DC containing these fixes. Please try out the fixes and share the feedback as that will help us make our applications better from accessibility perspective.

2. Acrobat needs an append option... or at least print multiple docs to a Portfolio

   Acrobat needs an append option... or the ability to print multiple docs to a Portfolio.
   All of the competitors have an option to print multiple files and add to single document. Acrobat even allows you to append scans to exiting pdfs. Why is there no option that does not require you to save multiple pdfs and then combine them. Seems easy enough... but when you have users refusing to switch platforms because they email statements to customers all day, the added steps of saving and combining documents would literally add hours a day to their workflow, You are not going to win that battle.
   This would also help when printing workbooks from excel etc.

3. Document title transfer from MS Word plug-in

   In the PDF Maker plug-in for MS Office, add additional controls in the PDF Preference settings to make accessible PDFs:

   Set the Display Title options to a drop-down menu with the choices of Document Title or File Name.

4. Converting emails with attachments

   Despite numerous Admins saying this matter has been resolved, it has NOT. We need to be able to convert .msg files and, rather than *embed the attachment, it needs to convert the attachment too (if not already a PDF) and place the attachment BEHIND the email. Email + attachment in one PDF, NOT embedded. Please address this, as it is a VERY important feature for law firms.

5. "Merge to Adobe PDF" in Microsoft Word Filename Field

   It would be very helpful if in the "Merge to Adobe PDF" function/plugin under Mailings in Microsoft Word to be able to specify a filename from the fields of my dataset. In other words, I would like to be able to have a column in my dataset that the plugin uses for naming files. It's horrible having to rename a hundred documents if you want to distribute PDFs.

6. Please add the .msg file type as an option for converting email messages that are saved on a network drive to PDF Portfolio format.

   We need the ability to convert folders/subfolders containing .msg files to a PDF Portfolio file. But the .msg extension is not a supported extension for conducting this conversion. The only way to do it is to create a folder in Outlook and drag all of the .msg files into the folder, which isn't practical and is an extra step. All of the other Microsoft file types seem to be supported (docx, xlsx, pptx, etc.), so I'm not sure why the .msg file type isn't supported.

   I have spent a couple support sessions with Tanvi Bhalla of Adobe trying to solve this, but she could no. See Case ID E-000002064.

7. Option to HIDE email data from header using Outlook PDF Conversion

   After searching for days on this forum and online, I've been unable to find any solution to preventing header information from appearing on Outlook PDF conversions.

   Convert to PDF in Outlook automatically creates a header in the PDF file with the Author, Recipient, Date, and Subject of the email. Not only does it cause issues with formatting (forcing the layout of emails to be pushed down an inch or so) but there are plenty of circumstances where an email subject/author/date information may need to be hidden when printing.

   Portfolios allow for bulk operations on several emails. Automatic Archival also preserves the HTML and Internet Print format for all graphics, tables, texts, page breaks, and layout options in emails so it looks much cleaner.

   This should be the preferred method of bulk conversion to PDF, but it can be made entirely useless by forcing the email details into the header of all PDFs.

   However, we have taken your feature request which will be prioritized depending upon other backlog items.

8. "Create PDF" through Adobe Create PDF cloud service from Word 2016 for Mac does not maintain fonts

   Steps to reproduce:

   • Create Word document in Word 2016 for Mac
     • using League Gothic, Monserrat, and Goudy Old Style fonts
   • Click "Create PDF" under the Acrobat tab in the Ribbon
     • allow it to create with the Adobe Create PDF cloud service
   • Check created PDF

   Expected to see:
   - League Gothic, Monserrat, and Goudy Old Style fonts

   Observed:
   - All fonts replaced with Times New Roman

   OS: macOS 10.13.2
   MS: Word 2016 (version 15.41)
   Adobe: CC, Acrobat Pro DC (version 2018.009.20050)

9. Combine two small pages and create one single page

   When I scan two pages and crop them, they are smaller or equal to an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. I want to be able to take the two pages and make them just one single page. There are many times that I have scanned something that had just a couple lines at the top of the second page. I may want to be able to shrink that to fit it all on one page. I think there should be options for doing that. Since people are trying to be more and more digital to store information and use tablets, these features are needed to be able to get away from paper.

10. ERRORS: Links in PDF made from Word

    Internal hyperlinks, cross-reference hyperlinks, and TOC hyperlinks made in the latest version of MS Word 365 are not retained by PDF Maker.

    Affects: Word 365 version 2109 14430.20270
    Adobe Acrobat 2021.007.0095 and
    Adobe PDF Maker 21 (Library 21.7.123)

    Hyperlinks from Word are non-functional when exported to PDF via PDF Maker. Affects both traditional hyperlinks and accessible hyperlinks:

    — Traditional internal hyperlinks are not clickable.
    — Accessible internal hyperlinks are missing the <Link> / <Link-OBJR> compound tag that provides an accessible hyperlink.

    — TOC hyperlinks are not clickable nor accessible.

    — External hyperlinks appear to functional correctly, as well as accessible external hyperlinks.

    Sample Word 365 and PDF files are attached for diagnostic purposes.
    Screen captures are also attached.

    Summary:

    This level of bug not only makes an inaccessible PDF, it prevents the PDF from being used by anyone, with or without an assistive technology.

    Please fast-track this and other others and provide a hot-fix for PDF Maker that addresses this bug and the others immediately. Q1-2022 is not fast enough.

    Thanks for your patience. We have investigated this issue and found that this has broken with a recent Office update and would require a fix from Microsoft.

11. Please fix linkCreation.dotm

    Acrobat Pro (for the last several versions) continues to install linkCreation.com into MS Word directories, even though it is known to cause Word either to crash or to throw VBA errors. Please either fix the template or stop installing it.

12. PDF Thumbnails in PDF Portfolio : Portfolio/ View / Layout

    In Acrobat Pro DC 2015 Classic & Acrobat Pro 2017 the PDF icons on the left are quite large in Portfolio / View /Layout . It would be great if PDF Thumbnails could be enabled like in Windows explorer by checking the preference in General . I realise not all file thumbnails for all types of files could easily be created ( example Excel , Word )etc ..but we combine a lot of PDF secured files into a Portfolio & the thumbnail PDF view would really be a great feature in Portfolio/View / Layout

13. combine word files in PDF in Acrobat DC

    It doesn't work at all! PDF maker is not cooperating with Microsoft Office.It worked though in older version of Acrobat

14. make Acrobat Pro compatible with IBM Notes version 10

    Adobe Acrobat has been compatible with the major business application like MS Outlook or Lotus/IBM Notes since a long time.

    With the version 10 of IBM Notes (that was October 2018) Adobe Acrobat 2017 is no longer compatible with this email suite.

    The PDFMaker Addin did a great job in creating PDFs from Mail.
    Unlike just "printing to PDF" the right border has not been cut when the text was too long and the PDFMaker did include all attachments from the mail into the final PDF.

    So the Adobe Acrobat was a perfect companion for documenting approvals and other buisiness related mails that need to be stored as evidences.

    THIS FUNCTIONALITY IS BROKEN WITH IBM NOTES 10.

    Please get in contact with HCL and work on an updated PDFMaker Addin for IBM Notes 10.

    I do work for IBM and from the 360.000 employees more than 100.000 people work with IBM Notes. And we have several thousend licenses of Adobe products - so: please re-enable IBM Notes for the use with PDFMaker.

15. Don't capture bcc data when converting Outlook emails to PDF

    When doing a batch conversion of emails in an Outlook folder, all of the emails are captured in a single PDF file. However, it would be nice to restrict what information is captured. For example, I'd like to have bcc information excluded from the email-to-PDF conversion.

16. Initial View Preferences for the creation of PDF

    I want to set the "DEFAULT" for the initial view for all pdf documents that I create. I am sick and tired of setting the "initial views" for each and every PDF that I create. Please program a preference that automates the way to set a users preference for creating files with a preset initial view.

17. One Click Sub-Folder Integration in PDF Portfolio

    When you combined individual subfolders within a master folder when creating a PDF Portfolio, the previous Acrobat Pro allowed you to do this feature with one click. The current Acrobat Pro DC software requires that you create a portfolio and manually add the individual folders. Please add back the option for the one-click subfolder integration!

18. PATH AND FILE NAME INSERT OPTION

    I would like to see a feature added to Acrobat that would allow Acrobat to stamp the path (location) and name of the document which was created. I am attaching an example of a document created with a different program in which the feature is highlighted..

    It would also be great if that stamp would adjust and change as the document is renamed, moved or received and saved by the receiving party.

19. PDFMaker: Set the Scope, Row Span, and Column Span properties for table headers

    Currently, PDFMaker tags table headers as <TH> when "Header Row" and/or "First Column" are checked in Word. However, it does not change the default scope, column span, or row span of the headers based on these values.

    Description of desired feature:
    * For each table header tag added by "Header Row", set the Scope attribute to "Column".
    * For each table header tag added by "First Column", set the Scope attribute to "Row".
    * If both "Header Row" and "First Column" are checked, and the data cell in the first row and column is not empty, set the Scope attribute of that header tag to "Both".
    * For any cell that spans multiple columns, set the Column Span attribute to the number of columns it spans.
    * For any cell that spans multiple rows, set the Row Span attribute to the number of columns it spans.

    Why the feature is needed:
    Screen reader users need this metadata in order to understand the tables in the document. Content creators expect accessible content in Word to remain accessible after PDF export. They become frustrated when this is not the case.

20. Convert, not embed, email attachments (carry over attachment into the converted PDF)

    Attachments need to be converted to be included and placed behind the email. Email + attachment in one PDF, not embedded. As previously noted, this is a very important feature for law firms.
