  1. OSX Catalina with Acrobat PRO 2017, and networked scanner Epson
DS-520. I have installed the latest drivers and software for both
the Adobe software and the Scanner. When I start Acrobat and select
"Create PDF from Scanner", I get a pop up window with a choice of
scanners. I then select the EPSON DS-520 from the list and click
on SCAN. The SCAN button is then grey'ed out for a moment and
then its back to its original (blue) color.

Acrobat Pro just sits there doing nothing, no Epson Software appears

  2. Users should be able to select how many pages are scanned for recognizable text in Action Wizard or when OCRing multiple documents.

Performing OCR and recognizing text on a single document gives the user the option to select how many pages they want to OCR. Action Wizard and performing OCR on multiple documents removes the ability to select how many pages are scanned. I have several thousand documents that I'm only interested in performing OCR on the first page.

How is this not a thing?

  3. I work in prepress and have repeated problems with OCR trying to render scanned images as text when it is not desired. Obviously, there is a checkbox under Edit PDF to disable it for each document, which appears to be "sticky," i.e. Adobe remembers the last setting used, however it would be better able to turn the default behavior on or off in Preferences so OCR can be employed only when it is desired. Using Adobe Pro DC for Windows 2020. Many thanks in advance.

  4. When adding a document to a multi-page document via scan, give me a right-click option to move the new document to the top of pages. Thanks.

  5. As per information from the technical team currently there is no API available for converting the contents of a scanned PDF file to text format.
OCR is available from Acrobat Pro, but it would be more convenient for the user to select the file name and leave the whole process of reading the file, converting to text and processing the data to one program which would utilize this API.

  7. The german version of the helpsite is contradictory to the english one:
    In "Additional Information" it reads:
Acrobat kann OCR in einem Dokument durchführen, das bearbeitbaren Text enthält.
In the english version it reads:
Acrobat cannot perform OCR on a document that contains renderable text.
The german version should be corrected because it is misleading!

  9. The export of an OCR'ed document contains not just the values for each bounding box, but also the bounding box's x,y, coordinates, width, and height. This can be an extremely useful feature when dealing with structured forms / documents where the location of text contains valuable information.

  10. This is not an idea. It is a report of a serious, newly introduced bug in your expensive software.

File -> Create -> PDF from Scanner worked fine for me for several years with my Epson WF-3540 printer/scanner, several levels and versions of Adobe Acrobat products - up to Adobe Acrobat Pro DC - and my old Win7 laptop.

Last week I finally got around to deploying my new Win10 laptop and installing Adobe Acrobat Pro DC. Today I needed to scan some letters to PDF and was surprised and disappointed.

My usual "File -> Create -> PDF from Scanner"…

  11. Why don't you have the recognize text as a tool on the right hand side of the page? It's a pill to have to hit "Find Tools" every time.

  12. Adobe Acrobat won't work. I've spent 3 hours with two different tech support people, with them coming into my system. They don't seem to understand how OCR is supposed to work. They tell me that adobe thinks my handwriting is an image. Too bad. It's my fault. That is ludicrous. I thought I just didn't know how to do the final steps of a conversation to text. I know that OCR works. I just can't get it to work on my laptop with Adobe Acrobat DC that I pay for monthly.

Can anyone help, who understand how it is supposed…

  13. Greek OCR should be fixed as it seems broken in the newer versions.
Below you will find two paragraphs. 1st is from PDFXEdit (free tool) and second is from Adobe Acrobat 2019.021.20056 (costs two virgins and a first born child). It is expected for such an expensive software to make this process straight forward.

  14. [BUG]
Description: After initially correcting the orientation of the PDF and then highlighting where needed, I then decided to use the find tool to find a word in my PDF. Unfortunately, the PDF was an image and so Acrobat had to enhance the scan to try and search for the word. After enhancing, the page orientation stayed the same but the highlight seemed to rotate itself in the orientation of the original document and not the corrected orientation as shown below.

    Steps to reproduce:
    1) Have a file with text that is scanned in vertically and is viewed as an…

  15. Maybe i am paranoid but I have a case against the Norwegian government. I would like to use my HP printer color laserjet MFP M477fdw against Acrobat that i am renting. That is not working thru an usb-cable.. Probably other instances too that usb is better.... When I try I get you have not internwt. It is files I do not want out on the internet but at the same time it would be better for med to make it digital than having the case on paper.

  17. This is challenging, but I'm sure you could manage:
Many texts that I need to OCR have been scanned from books, so the text is curved. Right now, Acrobat only recognises text in straight lines, so it jumps lines when highlighting and copying text.Would be great if Acrobat Pro could judge, e.g. by analyzing the borders of text boxes, that lines of text are not perfectly straight.

  18. I sometimes receive files that have printed text that appears correctly but for which the underlying OCRing (or text derived from Word or another word processor) has become corrupt or is otherwise garbled and bears no relation to the visible printed text. An example is attached. It would be very helpful if there were a feature that allowed you to remove all existing OCRed text (or the underlying hidden text produced from the word processor) and run Acrobat's OCRing again from scratch.

It's possible to print an image only PDF and then OCR this, but that is cumbersome, loses quality…

  19. After running OCR and then running correct, it sometimes doesn't recognize the entire word or a whole character and there's no way to override the incomplete recognition to ensure the entire word is corrected or to correct the partial recognition. If the user could override that recognition and select the full word or character, then correct it to be accurate. Then it would be fabulous if the program would automatically rerun to find similar configurations and offer to correct them throughout the entire file and show the results similar to an advanced search, to complete a quick survey and have…

  20. Once a word is corrected, Adobe should automatically apply that correction throughout the entire file. Otherwise, you end up having to correct the same word on every page.
