I have been in software development for 30 years. If you make a UI change that has been standard since computer word processing has been existence, you have FAILED! What are you thinking moving the thumbnails to the right when the eye naturally looks left for that. Basic ergonomics you have ignored. If you think doing all of this is necessary, then make it customizable so real users can work in a natural manner. Allow us to put buttons at the top, where they belong, thumbnails on the left, and completely hide those we don't use.
