This issue began a few months ago for me as well and is now rampant. I close a PDF file, and try to open another, and it does not open with Adobe. I can be working in a PDF, and a new one will not open. I can close the one I am working on and cannot reopen it. It may delay, or it may not open at all.

I reinstalled Adobe, restarted, reinstalled again, and nothing happens. For about six months, Adobe will randomly choose which file it will open (double clicking various), delay, or not open it at all. The best solution is to Ctrl-Alt-Del and End Task, then Adobe works, for a few minutes, sometimes more. It is random.

I have 12GB RAM, sufficient storage, and ran McAfee. Adobe will return to its faulty state shortly after ending task, or at random, constantly. The Ctrl-Alt-Del is a task you have to do all day when using Adobe now.

I see various messages in forums and no solutions. This person has not received a response since November 2023. One person received a response with an unrelated screenshot in a separate thread (not the exact same problem, but very similar, in that it is an intermittent problem with accessing PDF files using Adobe with a preview pane open). My computer installs new updates as they come in. I understand bugs can happen, but when 6 months pass, I question why I pay a subscription for Adobe. This should have been fixed in days.

How a PDF software company has problems opening a PDF is beyond my reasonable understanding.
