    It's now nearly 2 years since OP. I'd say it's fairly obvious that nothing will be done to fix this.
    I've been using workaround that requires the JS Debugger (CTRL+J) and a command "this.selectedAnnots[0].rotate = 270;" in which you will replace the angle with something that suits you.
    It is in no way perfect and consumes a lot of time, but there is no other way around this.

    That works with some objects yes, but not with the text box I'm referring to.
    As mentioned earlier, if I create a text box with "Comment => Add text box" the gripper for rotating is not there.

    The solution suggested by Charu Maheshwari does not work with text boxes made with "Add text box" -tool (Comment => Add text box).

    This was the original problem, so please remove the resolved status.
