First, it's worth noting that the interface of the service is quite user-friendly. You upload a file, choose the translation language, and everything happens quite quickly. However, like you, I was a bit wary about the quality, especially when it comes to specialized texts. In particular, I was translating technical manuals and noticed that the service sometimes doesn't take context into account. For example, the word “display” might be translated as “display”, which is fine, but in a different context might require a different translation. This is really important as some terms can have different meanings depending on the situation. I'd recommend gathering a list of terms beforehand so that it's easier to check after translation. As for formatting, there are nuances here too. I was working with PDF files, and unfortunately some elements such as tables and images shifted. This created additional problems, as I had to manually fix the formatting after translation, which took a lot of time. If your document has a lot of visual elements, be prepared to have to tweak them. Despite these shortcomings, I still think Translate.com can be a useful tool for getting a general idea of a document's content.
