bookmark panel
It would be great to have the bookmark to appear permanently on the left hand side of the document for easy navigation.

Not quite. I'd rather have control of this feature, but currently, there are really no settings under user control, so since the bookmarks don't show up, we can't use them the way you want to, and if they just solder them onto the margin M that won't make me very happy.
