Acrobat Reader freezes after opening PDFs (v25.001.2111_x64, Windows 11)
Since around January 12, 2026, an issue has been occurring with Adobe Acrobat Reader (25.001.2111_x64),
where opening a PDF file from the desktop by double-clicking it causes the application to freeze a few seconds after the file is displayed.
This issue has been confirmed on multiple machines.
【Issue】
- The PDF is displayed normally.
- A few seconds later, the application becomes unresponsive ("Not Responding").
- User interaction becomes impossible.
- The application must be forcibly terminated via Task Manager.
【Environment】
- Windows 11 Pro
- Reproduced on multiple machines
- Occurs on PCs with different hardware configurations
- Adobe Acrobat Reader 25.001.2111_x64
【Reproducibility】
- The issue often does not occur immediately after Windows startup and user logon.
- However, after working for approximately 8–10 minutes after login, the issue begins to occur.
【Troubleshooting Performed】
- Uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat Reader → no improvement
- Same issue confirmed on multiple machines
- Occurs regardless of PDF file type
【Workaround】
The issue no longer occurs after performing the following steps (currently under verification):
- Restart Windows
- Launch Acrobat Reader
- Go to Preferences → Security (Enhanced) → Uncheck “Run in App Container”
【Recent Environment Changes】
- Windows Updates were applied around the same time period
- However, the root cause has not been identified
