   Acrobat Reader hangs on keyboard-layout switch (Alt+Shift) while a form field has focus

   Product: Adobe Acrobat Reader (64-bit) 26.002.22031 (file version 26.2.22031.0)
   OS: Windows 11 Pro, builds 10.0.26200 and 10.0.26300 (reproduced on both)
   Input languages: English (United States) 0409 + Greek 0408, switch hotkey Left Alt+Shift

   Summary

   With the caret in a text field of an AcroForm, switching the keyboard layout with Alt+Shift makes
   Reader stop responding permanently (window "Not responding", must be killed). It happens on the
   first layout switch: the layout changes once, then the UI thread hangs.

   It depends only on the page content under the form, not on the fields: the same page with one
   field hangs, and the same 40 fields on a blank page never hang.

   Steps to reproduce

   1. Open repro_FREEZES.pdf in Acrobat Reader.
   2. Click on the page, press Tab so a text field gets the caret.
   3. Hold Left Alt and press Shift several times (EN ↔ EL).

   Actual: Reader hangs after the first switch and never recovers.
   Expected: layout switches, Reader stays responsive (as with repro_OK_control.pdf).

   The two files have the same 40 form fields, the same resources, and the same drawing: one text line
   and one stroked line. Their page content streams differ in only two ways:
   - repro_FREEZES.pdf has 115 extra operators after the line: 111 rg/RG colour operators, plus
   2 w and 2 n. None of them paint anything, because no drawing operator follows them.
   - repro_FREEZES.pdf lacks one empty text object, BT /F1 12 Tf 14.4 TL ET, which shows no text.

   In separate tests the extra w/n operators alone did not cause the hang (0/10).

   Findings (automated test harness, SendInput + hang detection, Reader restarted every run)

   • The real form hung 15/15 (v1.21) and 3/3 (v1.22); a one-field test PDF never hung (0/15).
   • Not the cause (each tested): NeedAppearances, field JavaScript, doNotSpellCheck, field fonts, combo boxes, transparency, images, number of fields, tagged PDF / StructTreeRoot, character spacing (Tc), bold/oblique fonts, non-ASCII characters.
   • Needs text and paths and many colour state changes on the same page:
     • text only (47 colour changes): 0/11
     • paths only (35 colour changes): 0/11
     • text + line + 55 interleaved colour ops: 1/10
     • text + line + 111 interleaved colour ops: 3/3
     • text + line + 111 × the same colour: 0/10
   • Moving the page content into Form XObjects (one, or text and paths separately) still hangs (3/3).
   • A page with no content of its own does not hang: the same drawing placed as the appearance of a read-only Stamp annotation hung 0/10, rasterised to an image also 0/10.

   Workaround used

   Page content moved into the /N appearance stream of a locked, read-only, printable Stamp annotation
   covering the page; page /Contents left empty. Appearance is identical, and the freeze no longer occurs.

6. No option to close "Get app" pop-up

   When opening a new document in Acrobat, sometimes a pop-up for Express Photos will appear. There is no way to close the pop-up or proceed with your Acrobat task once the pop-up is on screen. (Dell laptop, Win11)

   There is no minimize or close button. Clicking elsewhere in the app does not work and will not allow interaction with your document until you proceed with the app download.

   The only present option is a "Get app" button with a disclaimer that you will be downloading the Express Photos app and agree to all terms and conditions. Attempting to close the application from the task bar also fails while the pop-up is active. The only solution to move forward if you DO NOT want to download the new app is to force quit the application from the task manager.

   Users should be able to use the current program without requirement to download an app for a different program. The UI needs to include an option to decline the app download, allowing the user to proceed with their task.

8. Feature Request: Clear Visual Indicator of PDF Lock/Edit Status to Protect Trust for Light Users

   Hello Adobe Team,

   With the introduction of Adobe’s powerful AI and editing tools, PDF editing has become easier than ever. However, this poses a major challenge to the psychological trust of "the vast majority of light users."

   For decades, ordinary users have perceived a .pdf file as a digital equivalent of a "printed paper"—an unalterable, finalized document. They do not check properties (Ctrl+D) or look for hidden security tabs. They simply open the viewer, read the file, and trust that it is the definitive, original version.

   As editing tools become more mainstream, these light users will face growing anxiety: "Is this PDF genuinely locked and authenticated, or has someone modified the numbers using AI?" If this anxiety spreads, the foundational trust in the PDF format itself will collapse.

   Therefore, I strongly suggest adding an intuitive, unmistakable status indicator directly on the top title bar (next to the file name):

   [Locked - Original Certified] (With a distinctive icon/color for digitally signed or read-only PDFs)

   [Editable - Draft / Standard] (For regular PDFs that allow editing)

   Just as web browsers place a clear lock icon in the address bar to instantly reassure everyday internet users, Acrobat Reader must provide a quick, intuitive visual cue. Please protect the identity of PDF and the trust of your largest user base—the light users.

9. “Bad Parameter” Error When Paging Through Document with Scrolling Disabled

   I just installed version 2026.001.21691, 64 bit, running on Windows 11. When I disable scrolling, and I'm in the "2 pages side by side" mode, when I click the arrow to go forward or backward, I get a popup that says “Bad parameter.”

10. Stop Resetting my Preferences

    I'm going to just remove the entire app if you don't stop changing my preferences. I DON'T want adobe to automatically open every PDF I generate or download. I keep deselecting the defaults in my preferences. But the buttons keep getting turned back on.

11. Dropdown menus are too large

    I'm using a PDF that has a series of dropdown menus. For some reason, within the last week or two, it's changed so that now the text box scaling has gotten way too big. Used to be the text box was the same size as the text field, but now the box is zoomed in.

12. Create a setting to change the highlight color of search results (using Ctrl+F)

    Give to the user the possibility to change the highlight color of search results obtained using Ctrl+F.

    It is appalling that by now Adobe has not yet implemented this possibility, making it often extremely difficult to locate the results of a search in a document.

    The current highlight color is light blue/grey, which is very discreet and often barely visible...
    Why choose a highlight color that is so discreet ???
    The purpose is to highlight and make it obvious and easy to find, not to hide !!!

    Use flashy green, or bright red, or bright pink, or ...

    But this setting should be user modifiable as one highlight color might be perfect for one document / background color, and not at all for another.

    Thank you for making your basic product more usable, before any useless cosmetic stuff.

    Give to the user the possibility to change the highlight color of search results obtained using Ctrl+F.

    Adobe Acrobat’s Read Aloud / text-to-speech feature currently caps playback speed at 2x. For users who rely on TTS as a serious reading and accessibility workflow, 2x is still too slow. Please allow higher playback speeds, ideally up to at least 5x, with fine-grained controls in 0.1x increments and the ability to save a default preferred speed.

    Why this matters:

    Many users do not use TTS only as casual narration. They use it to read long PDFs, academic articles, legal documents, reports, and accessibility materials at the pace their comprehension allows. A 2x cap unnecessarily limits experienced TTS users and makes Acrobat less useful for high-volume reading workflows.

    Suggested implementation:

    Add a numeric speed field or expanded slider for Read Aloud, with values such as 0.5x–5.0x, adjustable in 0.1x increments, plus a setting to remember the user’s preferred speed across documents.

    Request:

14. Allow users to use the modern Windows dialog for browsing for folders in Advanced Search

    When using Advanced Search in Adobe Reader, users have to manually go through the folder tree to get to the desired folder to search. This is a problem for users with deeply nested folder trees, those who use folder shortcuts, and power users. The modern folder-browsing dialog in Windows allows users to paste a folder path, allowing the user to quickly select a folder. In case there is any confusion, the "modern" dialog I am referring to has the location bar.

15. print pages field wrongly disabled for single page PDF

    I want to print a single page document, but repeated so there are 2 or 4 copies per page. I would normally do this by setting the Pages field for 'Pages to Print' to e.g. "1, 1" for 2 copies per page. But that field is wrongly disabled, presumably because there's only one page in the document. The field should not be disabled, this is a valid use case.

16. Allow Admins to see the usage reports for SSO users for Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat.

    My users are SSO'd via an access package from our Microsoft tenant. While being able to access reports there are an option, it's usually tedious to get. If I could get a report/ audit log from within the Admin Console for Adobe, that would save me so much time. I could see: which applications my users signed into (Adobe Reader, Acrobat, InDesign, etc., the frequency of the use of the app, and last login activity. If I could also see common errors my users get, that would be so helpful!!

17. drag menu bar

    I frequently move windows between screens and it's really frustrating how little of the menu bar it is possible to use to drag Adobe from one screen to another, without first maximising the window to find a sufficient gap between the "+Create" button and the Help button. There appear to be a lot of gaps between/around the buttons, especially between the "Sign In" and the minimise window button, or between the Menu and the Home buttons, but the only place you can drag the window around from is the small gap between "+Create" and Help. This is really annoying if it happens to be off screen! Please increase the amount of the menu bar that can be used to drag the window around!

18. Imprimir um MiniBooklet de 8 paginas

    Automatizar a forma de imprimir um Mini Booklet de 8 páginas.
    Existem os Booklets tradicionais em que se dobra a folha ao meio e existem os Mini Booklets em que se utiliza 1 única folha A4 para fazer o Mini Booklet

    O problema é que não é só imprimir, 4 das 8 páginas têm de ser viradas ao contrário para a parte de cima ficar no meio da folha e a ordem tem de ser alterada para se imprimir correctamente.

    Seguem em anexo os ficheiros PDF para ser mais fácil perceber.
    Porém o ficheiro 7.... está numa determinada ordem para imprimir no meu PDF Reader mas já já notei que em outras versões a ordem é diferente.

    Era bom poder selecionar o PDF e mandar imprimir e o Adobe Reader invertia e metia na posição correta.

19. Follow software conventions for intuitive use

    Acrobat flouts well-established software conventions. I'm not going to list all of the ones I've run across here. Frankly, I don't have time. For instance, Acrobat serves up an alert. For most programs, a user can quickly dismiss the alert box by hitting the escape key. Not here. Want to find the version of the software? Look under Help --> About. Not here. It's stunning how much Acrobat slows things down.
