   I would like to share some feedback as a Windows user who recently tried out Adobe Acrobat Reader.

   First, I appreciate Adobe’s contributions to the development and standardization of the PDF format, which has benefited millions of users worldwide. However, my experience with the installation and usage of the software has raised a few concerns that I believe warrant attention.

   My goal in downloading Adobe Reader was simple: to read PDF documents. Yet, during the installation process, I encountered additional components that affected my Windows environment more extensively than I had anticipated.

   Specifically, I experienced the following:

   The installation of "Adobe Express Photos," which I was not aware would be included.
   Changes to the default applications used for opening image files.
   Disruptions to the screenshot functionality I typically access via the Windows Snipping Tool.
   Configuration changes that were not fully reverted even after uninstalling the software.

   What I found most disappointing was not the size of the application or the number of features it includes, but the fact that, upon uninstallation, several system settings did not automatically return to their original state. I had to manually correct the settings for the Snipping Tool and my keyboard configuration to restore normal screenshot functionality.

   As a user, I believe that good software should be as easy to remove as it is to install, without leaving behind confusing system modifications. When an application alters file associations, keyboard integrations, or other system features, I expect clearer notifications and a more robust restoration mechanism to be triggered when the application is uninstalled.

   I would also like to suggest that Adobe consider the following:

   Providing clearer options regarding any additional components to be installed.
   Refraining from changing default Windows applications without the user’s explicit consent.
   Ensuring that the uninstallation process restores system configurations to their previous state.
   Allowing users who only require a simple PDF reader to avoid dealing with unnecessary additional features or applications.

   I offer this feedback not to disparage Adobe’s products, but because I believe the user experience could be significantly improved. Many users simply need a PDF solution that is straightforward, lightweight, and does not interfere with the system setup they use in their daily routine.

   We have configured new printers via the IPP protocol as notice lines on a technical drawing are printed way to thin. Also small text is barely readible.
   "Printing as image" improves it quite a bit. Opening a PDF in Microsoft Edge resolves the issue as well. Seems the Microsoft Edge render engine is way better in supporting IPP.
   As a test we have configured a printer via TCP which also resolves the issue. However Microsoft is pushing more and more to use IPP for printing. I hope this bug can be resolved asap.

4. Digital signing and overwriting PDF removes network file read permissions

   I am reporting a recurring problem in Adobe Acrobat Reader on Windows that seriously affects our shared-network workflow in an architectural office.

   Steps to reproduce in our environment:
   1. Place a PDF in a shared work folder where colleagues already have read access.
   2. Open it in Acrobat Reader and digitally sign it using a digital certificate.
   3. Save the signed PDF in the same location with the same filename, confirming overwrite.
   4. Check the file's filesystem permissions and access from colleagues' computers.

   Observed result: after signing and overwriting, the file loses the read permissions needed by colleagues. The PDF no longer appears in the shared folder from their computers. It remains available to me, so the problem can go unnoticed.

   Comparison/workaround: when I save the signed PDF under a different filename, the required access permissions are retained and colleagues can see it.

   Expected result: digitally signing and overwriting an existing PDF should preserve its appropriate filesystem access permissions and shared-folder access. This report concerns Windows/network file access permissions, not PDF editing or printing restrictions.

   Business impact: colleagues and administrative staff assemble project documents for submission to municipal authorities. A signed document that silently becomes invisible to them can be omitted, resulting in an incomplete project submission unless I manually check every file before handover. Please investigate this as a significant reliability issue.

   Additional observation, cause NOT confirmed: some PDFs received from a client by email and then downloaded into our work folder have also been inaccessible to colleagues. I do not know whether those files were signed or processed with Acrobat, or whether this has the same cause; please treat this separately from the signing/overwrite observation. I am not claiming that filesystem permissions are necessarily transmitted in an email attachment.

   Environment: Adobe Acrobat Reader on Windows, shared network working folder. Exact Reader build, Windows build, server/filesystem type and before/after ACL diagnostics have not yet been documented. The underlying cause has not been independently established; please advise which diagnostics are needed to investigate permission preservation during the signed-file overwrite operation.

   Acrobat Reader hangs on keyboard-layout switch (Alt+Shift) while a form field has focus

   Product: Adobe Acrobat Reader (64-bit) 26.002.22031 (file version 26.2.22031.0)
   OS: Windows 11 Pro, builds 10.0.26200 and 10.0.26300 (reproduced on both)
   Input languages: English (United States) 0409 + Greek 0408, switch hotkey Left Alt+Shift

   Summary

   With the caret in a text field of an AcroForm, switching the keyboard layout with Alt+Shift makes
   Reader stop responding permanently (window "Not responding", must be killed). It happens on the
   first layout switch: the layout changes once, then the UI thread hangs.

   It depends only on the page content under the form, not on the fields: the same page with one
   field hangs, and the same 40 fields on a blank page never hang.

   Steps to reproduce

   1. Open repro_FREEZES.pdf in Acrobat Reader.
   2. Click on the page, press Tab so a text field gets the caret.
   3. Hold Left Alt and press Shift several times (EN ↔ EL).

   Actual: Reader hangs after the first switch and never recovers.
   Expected: layout switches, Reader stays responsive (as with repro_OK_control.pdf).

   The two files have the same 40 form fields, the same resources, and the same drawing: one text line
   and one stroked line. Their page content streams differ in only two ways:
   - repro_FREEZES.pdf has 115 extra operators after the line: 111 rg/RG colour operators, plus
   2 w and 2 n. None of them paint anything, because no drawing operator follows them.
   - repro_FREEZES.pdf lacks one empty text object, BT /F1 12 Tf 14.4 TL ET, which shows no text.

   In separate tests the extra w/n operators alone did not cause the hang (0/10).

   Findings (automated test harness, SendInput + hang detection, Reader restarted every run)

   • The real form hung 15/15 (v1.21) and 3/3 (v1.22); a one-field test PDF never hung (0/15).
   • Not the cause (each tested): NeedAppearances, field JavaScript, doNotSpellCheck, field fonts, combo boxes, transparency, images, number of fields, tagged PDF / StructTreeRoot, character spacing (Tc), bold/oblique fonts, non-ASCII characters.
   • Needs text and paths and many colour state changes on the same page:
     • text only (47 colour changes): 0/11
     • paths only (35 colour changes): 0/11
     • text + line + 55 interleaved colour ops: 1/10
     • text + line + 111 interleaved colour ops: 3/3
     • text + line + 111 × the same colour: 0/10
   • Moving the page content into Form XObjects (one, or text and paths separately) still hangs (3/3).
   • A page with no content of its own does not hang: the same drawing placed as the appearance of a read-only Stamp annotation hung 0/10, rasterised to an image also 0/10.

   Workaround used

   Page content moved into the /N appearance stream of a locked, read-only, printable Stamp annotation
   covering the page; page /Contents left empty. Appearance is identical, and the freeze no longer occurs.

   I’m trying to find a reliable source for custom military patches in Ireland and I’m not having much luck. I’m putting together designs for a reenactment group, and a few of us also need patches for airsoft and outdoor gear. We want something that looks authentic and holds up properly, not the thin, cheap-looking patches you often find on big marketplace sites.

   Most of what I’ve found so far is either mass-produced overseas stock with long delivery times, or generic designs that can’t be changed. I’d much prefer a supplier based in Ireland or the UK that can make patches to order from our own artwork.

   If anyone has been through this, I’d really appreciate your advice on a few things:

   Embroidered or woven patches: which gives a better result for fine detail like small text and crests?
   Velcro, sew-on, or iron-on backing: which holds up best on combat-style jackets, caps, and bags?
   What’s a realistic minimum order for a small group, and does the price per patch drop much on larger runs?
   How accurate are suppliers with colours and details when you send your own design?
   Are there any rules or sensitivities in Ireland about replicating real unit insignia or rank badges that I should be aware of?
   How long does production usually take, so I can plan around events?

   If you have photos of patches you’ve had made, that would help me judge quality and know what’s realistic. Recommendations for Irish suppliers are very welcome, along with any warnings about ones to avoid.

11. PKCS#11 “Attach Module” button remains disabled on macOS — Acrobat Reader 2026.002.21901, including under Rosetta

    Hello Adobe Acrobat Reader Team,

    I am unable to add a PKCS#11 module in Adobe Acrobat Reader on my Mac because the “Attach Module” button is greyed out and cannot be clicked.

    Version: 2026.002.21901 — Continuous Release, Unified App
    Operating system: macOS 27.0.1
    Processor: Apple M5
    Interface language: Turkish
    Related software: AKİA, which successfully detects my electronic signature device
    Steps to reproduce

    Open Adobe Acrobat Reader.
    Go to Preferences > Signatures.
    Open “Identities & Trusted Certificates” using the “More” button.
    Select “PKCS#11 Modules and Tokens.”
    Attempt to click “Attach Module.”
    Expected result

    The “Attach Module” button should be enabled so that I can select the PKCS#11 library provided by my electronic signature middleware.

    Actual result

    The PKCS#11 buttons remain greyed out. I cannot open the file selection dialog or attempt to load a module. The issue therefore occurs before any PKCS#11 library is selected.

    Troubleshooting already performed

    Disabled “Enable Enhanced Security,” but the buttons remained disabled.
    Launched Acrobat Reader using Rosetta.
    Confirmed in macOS Activity Monitor that the Acrobat process is listed as “Intel,” verifying that it is running under Rosetta. The buttons still remained disabled.
    Checked the security preferences; the “Enable Protected Mode at startup” option is not visible in my installation.
    The electronic signature device is detected by AKİA on the same Mac. However, I cannot configure its PKCS#11 module in Acrobat Reader because the module attachment controls are disabled.

    Please investigate this issue and advise whether there is a supported workaround for this version and configuration. If this is already a known issue, please provide the relevant bug reference. If diagnostic logs are needed, please provide macOS-specific instructions for collecting them.

    PDF Portfolio file-list pane ignores its last width and opens excessively wide; no initial-width setting is available.

    We desperately need initial-view options for the file-list pane; the way it opens now in the new interface looks very unprofessional and forces users to revert to the old interface.

    Description

    Acrobat Reader seems to store only one page number.
    When opening it tries to open all files with this same page number.
    Reproduced with a second pair of PDFs (8 and 45 pages).

    Preconditions

    • Open PDFs from last session on Acrobat launch: enabled
    • Restore last view settings when reopening documents: enabled

    Steps to Reproduce

    • Open two files as two tabs in the same window.
    • File 1: Go to a page number > than max page number of file 2.
    • File 2: Go to any page except the last one.

    Example:

15. Protected Mode prevents opening a second PDF from an SSHFS-Win/WinFsp network drive

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Enable "Protected Mode at startup" in Adobe Acrobat Reader.
    2. Completely exit Reader.
    3. Open File Explorer and navigate to an SSHFS-Win/WinFsp network drive mapped as Z:.
    4. Double-click a PDF. It opens normally.
    5. Leave Reader running.
    6. Return to File Explorer and double-click a different PDF on the same Z: drive.

    Environment:
    - Windows 11
    - Adobe Acrobat Reader Continuous Release 2026.002.21931, 64-bit
    - SSHFS-Win / WinFsp
    - Network drive mapped as Z:
    - Windows reports the remote path as \sshfs\kalmer@192.168.1.173....

    Expected result:
    The second PDF opens in the already running Reader instance.

    Observed result:
    Nothing happens. No error message is displayed.

    Additional testing:
    - The first PDF opens normally when Reader is not running.
    - The second PDF can be opened with Reader's File > Open.
    - The same PDF opens normally from Z: in Microsoft Edge.
    - JPG files on the same Z: drive open normally by double-clicking.
    - A PDF copied to a local drive opens normally.
    - Disabling "Protected Mode at startup" completely resolves the problem.
    - Re-enabling Protected Mode immediately reproduces it.
    - Adding Z:\ as a Privileged Location does not resolve it.
    - The Protected Mode log does not appear to contain the requested PDF path when the second open attempt fails.

    This appears to be specifically an interaction between Protected Mode and passing a second document from Windows to an already running Reader instance when the document is on an SSHFS-Win/WinFsp filesystem.

    A similar historical Adobe issue was reported with DFS/UNC network paths, and Adobe bug 3844582 concerned UNC/symbolic-link paths.

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Enable "Protected Mode at startup" in Adobe Acrobat Reader.
    2. Completely exit Reader.
    3. Open File Explorer and navigate to an SSHFS-Win/WinFsp network drive mapped as Z:.
    4. Double-click a PDF. It opens normally.
    5. Leave Reader running.
    6. Return to File Explorer and double-click a different PDF on the same Z: drive.

    I often use the OCR feature on Acrobat Reader. Many of the texts I work with are in Latin. You have a long list of languages that can be OCR'd, but Latin isn't included--yet. Would love to see it added.

18. Crash at every launch: compute-only-renderer fails delay-load of AdobeXMP.dll (0xC06D007E)

    ENVIRONMENT
    Adobe Acrobat (64-bit) 26.002.21900, running in Reader mode. Windows 11 Pro, build 10.0.26200. Same behaviour on 26.001.21789, so the September update did not change it.

    STEPS TO REPRODUCE (100% reproducible)
    1. Make sure no Acrobat process is running.
    2. Start Acrobat.exe, with or without a document.
    3. After about 9 seconds the child processes --type=compute-only-broker and --type=compute-only-renderer are spawned (--channeltype=7 /n /prefetch:7 /CR).
    4. After about 19 seconds the renderer raises an unhandled exception and Windows shows a hard error dialog.
    5. Acrobat spawns the worker a second time; in several runs the whole application then exited.

    Opening a PDF into an already running instance does NOT trigger it, because the document is handed to the existing process. Users experience this as a crash when opening a PDF attachment from an email client, because each of those is a cold start.

    EXPECTED RESULT
    Acrobat starts without a crash dialog.

    OBSERVED RESULT
    Hard error dialog with exception 0xC06D007E (VcppException ERRORMODNOTFOUND, raised by the Visual C++ delay-load helper) in KERNELBASE!RaiseException. Hard error status 0xD0000144; the lower word is STATUSUNHANDLED_EXCEPTION. Because this is a csrss hard error it produces no Application event log entry and no Windows Error Reporting report, which makes it invisible to normal diagnostics.

    DIAGNOSIS
    The failing thread was inspected while still suspended in NtRaiseHardError. Its stack holds exactly one pointer to a DLL name string: AdobeXMP.dll, consistent with DelayLoadInfo.szDll passed to the delay-load failure hook. Non-system modules loaded in the failing process: Acrobat.dll, AGM.dll, BIB.dll, CoolType.dll, ACE.dll, thorvg-1.dll. AdobeXMP.dll is not among them, while the sibling --type=renderer process has it loaded from the Acrobat program directory at the same moment.

    RULED OUT, WITH EVIDENCE
    - File integrity: AdobeXMP.dll is 64-bit, file version 9.1.1.53142; LoadLibraryW with the full path succeeds from a normal process; all 14 imports resolve; the file has no delay imports of its own.
    - DLL search path: the Acrobat program directory is the first PATH entry in the process environment, read directly from the running process PEB. Adding it a second time changed nothing.
    - File permissions: AdobeXMP.dll carries the same ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES ACE as CoolType.dll, AGM.dll, BIB.dll, ACE.dll, Acrobat.dll and thorvg-1.dll, all of which the same process loads successfully.
    - Generative AI settings: setting ConversationalAcrobat and KnowledgeWorkspace flags to 0 had no effect on the spawn or the crash.
    - Repair installation: msiexec /fa completed with exit code 0 and rewrote the program files including AdobeXMP.dll. The next cold start produced the identical crash.

    REMAINING HYPOTHESIS
    The DLL search configuration of the sandboxed compute-only child itself, for example SetDefaultDllDirectories(LOADLIBRARYSEARCHSYSTEM32) or an equivalent lockdown that prevents a bare-name delay-load from resolving a DLL located in the application directory. A load by name reproduces ERRORMODNOTFOUND exactly under that condition, while a load by full path succeeds.

    Minidumps of the failing process, taken while the thread was still suspended, are available on request.
