   Acrobat Reader before Windows 11 used to be more useable. Over time, it has gotten so that I really don't like the interface - now I can't find how to return the navigation buttons at the top. I looked briefly in every visible setting. Adobe reader 2023 is slick, but I don't like it. And I'm someone who has worked with computers since Windows 98. Bring back navigation basics.

2. Bug - Exception breakpoint error

   Adobe Reader DC - after MS patching in January 2024 and restart, we are getting Exception breakpint ACROCEF.exe Application error. Repair, reinstall, cleaner, vcredist reinstall/upgrade - none helped. Happening on latest DC install with updates installed from https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC/index.html.
   Rolling back to Adobe Reader XI, errors don't happen. Happening on Windows Server 2022 after MS January security patches.

5. Bug report - Manual Zoom value not saved when using zoom buttons

   Version 2023.008.20470 64-bit, Windows 11, Using new Reader interface.

   Summary: When the zoom +/- buttons are used, if a manually entered zoom value was used, that value is lost.

   Impact: The only way (known to the user) to bring up the zoom value entry field is to first press either the zoom +/- buttons. When this is done, it also moves to the next zoom preset and you lose your custom zoom value.

   Expected result: There is some way to view your zoom setting without changing it. Also, if a custom zoom setting has been entered manually, the zoom +/- buttons will either increase or decrease incrementally from that, or at least keep that last setting in the cycle of zoom values. Maybe bringing up the zoom slider / zoom value popup when you <right click> the zoom +/- button without changing the current zoom setting would solve part of the issue.

   Observed Result: Currently the only way to see the zoom value appears to be by first pressing the zoom +/- button, but this also changes the zoom setting at the same time. Once changed, you need to manually enter your zoom value again. If you don't remember which value you entered last, you might then need to try several different zoom values to get back to the one you were using.

   Example: I wanted the page zoomed slightly larger than the "Fit-to-width" size (158%) . I manually set the zoom to 165%. After that, when I pressed the zoom + button, it drops back to 158%. Some custom zooms jump to the next highest detent. I haven't figured out the pattern when it jumps up or down from the current setting, but either way, it drops my manually entered zoom and I see no way to confirm my zoom before changing it.

7. Better update quality needed URGENTLY

   Hello,
   since there are only bugs with your latest updates and as an enterprise we, from IT, have to deploy a complete reset of user settings (deleting registry entries and files) for our users to be able to open PDFs generated with MS Office, we are unhappy with Adobe Reader and will ditch it for good should there be another such update. We can't even figure out whats bothering acrobat.exe because it crashes just like that by clicking an input field. Your previous update brought the updater to crash and annoy with info boxes on each and every opened PDF. No quality, only advertising, useless for us... sorry, but inacceptable...

11. BUG: Fillable Form not spawning Fields from Page Template

    With more than one Page Templates with fillable form fields, spawning the templates other than the first one does not spawn with the fields as expected.

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Start with a 3 page document, each page with form fields.
    2. Create a Page Template from page 2, hide the template.
    3. Create a Page Template from page 3, hide the template.
    4. Spawn the first template, with bRename=true, bOverlay=true.
    5. Spawn the second template, with bRename=true, bOverlay=true.

    Result: the 3rd page has no form fields.
    Expected Result: All 3 pages have form fields with auto-generated names.

12. BUG: Scroll bar disappears

    The app should respect the OS setting to always show scroll bars. Instead, the scroll bar disappears after scrolling even though the OS setting is to always show scroll bars.

    This is an accessibility problem and makes it impossible to drag the scroll bar with a pen.

14. BUG: Adobe Reader crashing when filling out form

    When opening a fillable form, if you click in the form immediately after opening it in Adobe Acrobat, it will crash. You have to wait for the blue sign-in button to appear on the bottom left-hand portion of the screen. Once you see the sign-in button load, the application doesn't crash anymore.

15. Toolbar Updates - Roll Back

    Please, keep the Toolbar menus as they have been; there is no benefit to the professional end-user community for the change, we don't have the time to learn yet another new way to do something that works fine in the original format. We know you are bored. Please find something else to do. We appreciate that you kept a lifeline out of the mess that was done, truly. On the next security patch update; kill that bloody "new menu" option. It'll wind up becoming unsupported, and another security surface opportunity for villains.

    When the Comment tool is open and highlighting is selected to change its color or when the Properties toolbar is used to change highlighting color, one matrix of 40 predefined colors appears. With the new interface, when the Comment toolbar is closed, a different matrix with 18 predefined colors appears. Two matrix formats makes assigning consistent colors for filtering or other tasks a real pain. Change the new pop-up to include all 40 colors and the "Other Color..." option.

17. Revert to prior edition of Adobe Acrobat Pro

    I've been using the new edition of Adobe Acrobat Pro for a month or so now, convinced the new layout woudl become intuitive and better; it hasn't. The revised version is very very frustrating. In addition, I'm now having trouble with Distiller producing quality pdf's. Distiller often produces documents without OCR and I can't even highlight text. I've found Microsoft's print to pdf feature to work much more reliably. This is a real shame. Adobe used to have realiable straightforward products (e.g. Reader and Distiller). Now, they've been revamped and, frankly, don't work well. Not sure if Adobe has a direct line to someone who both cares and is in charge to do something about this, but here's my effort to help. Perhaps Adobe has become too large of an organization to do anything about this.

20. Re-enable keyboard functionality in the new Acrobat interface

    I am a professional proofreader. My clients expect me to use the built-in annotation and commenting tools, and in the 2023 Acrobat interface I’ve come across several points of friction that literally double the amount of time it takes me to implement my markup.

    1. I can no longer apply a tool after selecting text

    In the old Acrobat, I could select text first and then look for the tool I wanted to apply to the selection. In the 2023 Acrobat, many tools are unavailable to me after I’ve already selected text. For example, if I haven’t activated the replace selected text tool before selecting text, navigating to that tool deselects my text.

    After I’ve identified a proofing issue in the text I’m reading, I have to decide what I want to do with the text, select the correct tool to perform that action, and then go back to select the text that requires that action—a sequence that takes my attention away from the text that needs fixing and forces me to hold that information in my working memory while searching for the right tool. It is four mental steps instead of two, which means it takes me twice as long.

    With Comments open in the old Acrobat, if I started typing, the program would insert the text I typed. If I selected text and started typing, the program would replace the selection with what I typed. Intuitive, right?—functioning just like a word processor. Unless there’s a setting I can change to enable this feature, it seems I can no longer do this in the new Acrobat. I can still select text and delete it with my keyboard, but the program no longer recognizes any text I try to input.

    It seems also from Adobe’s guide to keyboard shortcuts in Acrobat that there’s no keyboard-only way to select some of the more commonly used proofreading markup tools, including insert text and replace selected text. For proofreaders with print disabilities, who rely on the keyboard rather than the mouse to navigate a document, this change must be an accessibility nightmare.

    The decreased keyboard functionality also means that when I’m trying to mark up text in a link, I can’t use my keyboard to navigate and select the text. Using the mouse activates the link, so in the past, I’ve clicked near a link, keyed over to the text I want to select and used the shift key to select the text. Now, instead of being able to directly mark up the change with keystrokes, I’m having to highlight the linked text and use a comment to explain the change, which is both more cumbersome for me and possibly less precise and clear to the designer inputting the changes.

    1. The categorization of commenting and annotation tools is unintuitive

    The annotation tools have now been subcategorized:

    To access the delete text (strikethrough) tool, you first have to click on the highlight tool (though, as I discussed above, this is less of an issue because strikethrough is also accessible through the pop-up and the delete key).
    Not only does this categorization force the user to click twice to access a tool, but it also imposes an unnecessarily mental burden on the user to remember how these tools have been classified. To me, this classification is completely unintuitive: thematically, insert, replace, and delete text are related, and comment and highlight are related, but in the new interface they are not organized in that way.

    I am a professional proofreader. My clients expect me to use the built-in annotation and commenting tools, and in the 2023 Acrobat interface I’ve come across several points of friction that literally double the amount of time it takes me to implement my markup.

    1. I can no longer apply a tool after selecting text
