This is such a hot-button issue (3 of the top 4 feature requests deal with toolbars), that I decided to make another video to help the users. There actually are several ways to customize your toolbars. They are buried under "Customize Quick Tools", they Show/Hide menu, and "Create Custom Tool."

I think a big reason for the major confusion on the part of the users is that Adobe didn't use standard nomenclature. There are about 5 different areas of the UI that are called "tools." In my opinion, "Create Custom Tool" should rather be called "Create Custom Toolbar Configuration."

This first video deals with how to show and hide different areas of the toolbar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpG3kDvmTJ4&t=30s

And this video shows how to create a "Custom Tool" : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMkaxy1Pi88&t=3s

That feature was also discussed here: https://acrobat.uservoice.com/forums/590923-acrobat-for-windows-and-mac/suggestions/33632323-make-comment-color-in-sidebar-match-the-color-of-t.

Normally, Id' ask you to cross vote, but once feature requests are denied, voting is closed. But you can at least still post a comment!

There is already a related preference for that. Preferences > Commenting > Choose the last one. "Copy selected text into Highlight, Strikethrough, Underline... etc.

That will put it into the pop up note, where it will be easy to copy.

The original issue reported in the main thread is resolved by giving a preference for checkbox in the latest release. The other issue reported by Ian Davis is under our radar and we will let the user know if we pick it for future release.

For those of you who would like to have the "No Fill" option reimplemented, you please vote for it here: https://acrobat.uservoice.com/forums/590923-acrobat-for-windows-and-mac/suggestions/33141349-draw-shapes-add-a-no-fill-option

Also, I've written an article about the "No Fill" option and how it can still be accomplished using the Properties Bar: http://documentgeek.blogspot.com/2018/06/how-to-make-pdf-drawing-markup-with-no.html

Adobe added a keyboard shortcut for marking a comment as checked : Shift + K.

There is also a third party tool that will mark a comment as checked. That way, you can add it to your Quick Tools and so you always have the ability to mark comments as checked, even without the Comments Pane open. The added benefit of the third party tool is that you can mark multiple comments as checked all at once. I wrote about it here:
    https://documentgeek.blogspot.com/2018/01/an-easier-way-to-mark-comments-as.html

You can purchase the script here: http://try67.blogspot.com/2018/01/acrobatreader-comments-checkmark-tools.html

YES! I still use Acrobat 9 every day because of the better UI for commenting! http://documentgeek.blogspot.com/2015/04/why-i-run-four-different-versions-of.html

Indeed! Adobe keeps making it harder to mark things as checked! I found a scripter who wrote me a great script to help with this. https://documentgeek.blogspot.com/2018/01/an-easier-way-to-mark-comments-as.html

Also, you can mark something as checked using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl/Cmd + K.

This would be pretty easy for Try67 to write a script for this. http://try67.blogspot.com.

I was able to get some help writing one to write one that changed color based on sticky note content. You might want to check out the Acrobat Scripting forum. They are really helpful over there: https://forums.adobe.com/community/acrobat/acrobat_scripting

I agree that the UI of Acrobat DC toolbars is very non-intuitive. Here is a video I made to help with this. You can actually CAN customize your toolbar to a certain degree. It's just not names as such. It's called "Customize QuickTools." It really should be named "Customized Toolbar." But I discuss that wonky naming convention in the video, as well as shed some light on other naming and behavioral inconsistencies. Once you understand the possibilities, it's less frustrating. But the lack of consistency in the UI leaves users very frustrated. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpG3kDvmTJ4&t=15s

Acrobat 9 used to have a properties bar with the up and down arrow: https://acrobat.uservoice.com/forums/590923-acrobat-for-windows-and-mac/suggestions/19545979-comment-ui-was-better-in-former-version

I wrote about that here: http://documentgeek.blogspot.com/2015/04/why-i-run-four-different-versions-of.html

Ditto! They made the UI for the iPad and the desktop version exactly the same, without regard for the fact that desktop users have an entirely different workflow.

The InDesign team got it right, They didn't abandon the desktop version for a touchscreen version. They realize that desktop users use mice and not fingers.

    Hi,

Thanks for Reaching out to us.
I would request you to kindly add the Loupe tool in your main toolbar. thats how you can do that

    1) launch any pdf and right click on the main toolbar
    2) select “Show Select and zoom Tool” and click on “Loupe Tool”
    3) click on the loupe tool icon added to the toolbar and then click on any area in the pdf

Now you can see an enlarged view of a specific area in a pdf in a separate window

Let me know if that solves your concerns

    Thanks
    Ayush Jain

    Hi,

Thanks for Reaching out to us for your concerns.
We have not removed the zoom tools from the main toolbar and those are already there.

I assume you might have undocked the Toolbar so you may be getting a black floating window over the document area which would be having the zoom tools.

I would request you to kindly Dock it back to the Main toolbar by clicking the rightmost icon from that floating window.

Also, if this is not the case i would request you to kindly do a right click on your main toolbar and select “Reset Toolbar” from the context menu. (This way your main toolbar will get back to the default state which would anyways be having the Zoom tools.

Let me know if this fixes your concern

    Thanks
    Ayush Jain
