    Hi All,

We have provided a registry protected fix, some users confirmed that this worked for them.
Could you please try this at your end as well and let us know your feedback?
Kindly make sure you are on the latest DC build(20.012.20043) and then follow the steps from the attached word file: “Steps.docx”.

    Regards,
    Arvind

That's 3 years, 2 months of inconvenience, to be precise (and counting). Really astonishing. Yes I realize this isn't a "constructive" comment....but A) I gave my constructive comment on this issue in March 2018, so I don't feel too bad about it and B) This really SHOULD be a constructive comment about the overall abysmal state of Adobe customer service, if anyone cared to read it.

I think it's time you stopped asking us for sample PDF files, because it's clearly not related to any specific document. This happens on EVERY SINGLE DOCUMENT, regardless of whether it has zero or 1000 comments and regardless of what program created the original PDF. It's clearly an application and/or configuration problem. So if you can't reproduce the problem, it's because you've failed to reproduce your typical end user's hardware/installation/configuration environment somehow. If you start focusing on that, I'm sure we'd all be happy to provide any environment details that would help you troubleshoot.

As all others have said. Open any PDF document that contains comments. Click the 'Comments' button to open up the pane. Wait. Everyone in our office has experienced this issue since the beginning of Acrobat DC. On newer SSD Macs it's more bearable, about 3-4 seconds wait. On our older Macs with spinning hard drives it takes as long as 30 seconds for the comments panel to open. For some reason the delay seems to get longer and longer as the installation of Acrobat ages, meaning if I completely uninstall it and reinstall the app, the first few uses are pretty quick and then it gradually gets slower.

Or perhaps limit the automatic updates to only include bug fixes and security enhancements. Make it so that major releases always require consent? That would be ok.

Every other adobe app I've ever used, along with every other non-adobe app I've ever used, makes use of the default operating system 'save as' dialog. Why does Acrobat DC need or deserve its own special save-as dialog? So dumb and annoying.

The new icons are so gross. Totally indistinguishable from one another. And why aren't they colored to match the comment type (red/blue/yellow) anymore??

The original issue reported in the main thread is resolved by giving a preference for checkbox in the latest release. The other issue reported by Ian Davis is under our radar and we will let the user know if we pick it for future release.

Agreed. I would love for you to take a breather. Open the commenting UI from an old version and compare it side-by-side with new version and ask yourselves not which one is subjectively 'prettier', but which is more FUNCTIONAL. Hint: It's the old one. By a mile.

I HATE the trend of making all icons gray. It is horrible for productivity. The colors were helpful and the colors had a distinct purpose that made sense. Please bring them back.

Does your UI team exist solely to make our lives miserable??? Interface keeps getting worse and worse with every update. Do people honestly complain to you about things like "Oh...that checkbox sure is ugly I wish it was hidden behind a menu!" or "Oh those colored comment type icons sure are ugly I wish you would make them all gray and indistinguishable from one another!" Could you please stop changing things on a whim because you think the look 'cleaner' and start considering that people are trying to use this program to accomplish actual work?

@Anne - thanks, but to clarify, my original stated problem occurs AFTER you double-click on the popup box.

However, you bring up another problem. When you single-click a comment bubble, it opens up in “reading mode” with the yellow background. It allows you to highlight the text, but as soon as you let go it instantly un-highlights it, and then changes the popup to “active/editable” mode (white background) so you have to re-highlight again. That in itself is annoying and stupid. It should not allow you to highlight something if it's only going to instantly un-highlight it. But again this is a separate issue from what I pointed out originally.

@Ven, there is not a time lag that I notice here. Move of a boundary issue. The un-highlighting occurs whenever I move the mouse outside the edge of the popup bubble, regardless of how quickly or slowly I move.

All in all the whole process remains frustrating :(

    Thanks for looking into this:
    Mac OSX 10.12.6
    iMac Retina 5K 2017
    Acrobat DC: 2018.011.20038

Issue reproduces with any files that have comments. Even brand new PDFs created directly in Acrobat. Also reproduces on all 4 other iMacs in our office. All using same OS and Acrobat versions, but machines are various ages ranging from 2012-2017.

I don't see a way to attach a file to this comment. But here are the exact steps to reproduce the issue from scratch:

    Open Acrobat
File >> Create >> PDF from screen capture (or anything else, doesn't matter)
    Click ADD STICKY NOTE tool
    Click on page
    Type in some comment text
    Click POST button
Click the X to close the comment popup box
Click on the sticky note icon on the page to re-open the same comment popup box
Select/highlight the comment text inside the popup box
Roll mouse out of bounds of popup box.
    The selected text de-selects itself.

Selecting from the right side panel comments list works correctly (selected text stays selected even when rolling mouse away from it). However, as designers we're very visual and it is much easier for us to work with the comment popups positioned on the actual page. Thanks.

Hi, not sure if exactly the same issue, but you could be experiencing the roll-out un-highlighting bug that I just reported here:
    https://acrobat.uservoice.com/forums/590923-acrobat-for-windows-and-mac/suggestions/33581557-comment-popup-text-very-difficult-to-select-and-co

Hope that may help you. If so please vote for and confirm with a comment on my post to help get traction on a fix.

If you're looking for concrete advice about how to improve the user interface, it's pretty simple. Open up Acrobat X or earlier. Though the UI in older versions wasn't anything amazing, see how all the tools and panels are at least quickly available with 1 or 2 clicks? See how we can jump from commenting to a print separations preview without having to "search" for tool functions by typing their name into a box? See how we don't have to tinker with customizing toolbars if we don't want to? The DC UI, where you are locked into a specific toolset that takes over the screen for each type of task, is incredibly annoying for professional users who are jumping around doing multiple kinds of tasks on a document. Furthermore it has always been annoying that Acrobat's interface is on a totally different planet from the rest of the Creative Suite. Why can't Acrobart have straightforward dockable panels that match the design and functionality of those in Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator...or ALL OF YOUR OTHER APPS?
