"Executable code" Error Uploading Combined PDF to Court Sites
The problem is as follows:
• A PDF document is downloaded from the court site (10th Circuit Court of Appeals for example).
• The downloaded PDF document needs to be combined with a Word brief to submit to the court.
• The files are converted to PDF through File Explorer (select the Word document and downloaded PDF documents, right-click, Combine files in Acrobat)
• Save the combined PDF.
• Login to the site and attempt to upload the combined PDF, the following error occurs:
<PDF> cannot be uploaded. Documents with executable code are not permitted.
When uploading the files individually, there is no error. The combined PDF acquires executable code that "sanitizing" does not remove. The only recourse is to print the PDF to Adobe PDF printer, but that process removes bookmarks which are required in California court filings.
