Backout from bad Patch
Often times the impact of a patch is so severe and so large that uninstalling complete application and reinstalling an older version take enormous amount of time and efforts. If the issue is wide spread to several thousand machines it is not an ideal situation for this uninstall reinstall work around. There should be a way to downgrade, backout or restore to older working patch till the issues is addressed and a new patch is safe to apply
P.S. PIV and Unit testing can only cover so much for not all scenarios and this is one reason why we do issues cascaded down and discovered by the users.
