As of April 21, 2024 this problem still hasn’t been resolved. I use the Adobe app on my iPad for knitting/crochet patterns & the only solution I’ve found to ensuring my highlights/underlines/etc. are saved is to leave the app open for HOURS before closing it. This is an unacceptable solution, yet Adobe has shown their disinterest in fixing it despite being made aware of the problem multiple times.

I'm in the same situation, 3 years after this thread. I'm working with a document for the last two days, making comments and highlighting. All be fine, until today. I'm making a presentation of the document that i worked, the first comments and highlights in the first pages of the papper there are, but in the rest of pages, are deleted. What happen! I'm furius because two days of work end in nothing.

And the worse of all, there is no answer about it. You, the Adobe Acrobat team, are an as*h*les !!!

If you go onto the comments section on the right, click the 3 dots and the 'expand all' then all highlights, comments and notes are shown

Hi, I'm having this same issue on two separate devices. I updated to the new newest version to no avail. In the past, I could highlight, underline etc., close the app and when I went back in the highlights and underlines were still there. What I have discovered is that now, if I highlight, I must first close the doc before closing the app or these highlights/underlines are lost.

Hey y'all, I've been posting on this thread since summer of 2019, I even was in a call with an Adobe developer to supposedly help fix the bug. Lo and behold just like the rest of you I never saw any improvement so I moved on, deleted the app and got another one that is honestly way better than adobe with the free version having more features for annotations and highlighting than Adobe allows its free users. The worst part is that no Adobe developer ever commented under this thread ever again, despite the ongoing new comments and votes. The app I use is called PDF Expert by Readdle ( those 2 Ds are not a typo) hopefully you like it as well.

So what’s the update ??

How long had you been commenting for before you lost data? It was after I saved and closed the document.
- Did you click the ‘done’ button in the top left? No.
- Did you only use a single tool (highlight), or did you alternate? alternate (used highlight and comment)
- How did you leave the pdf you were commenting before your comments were lost? (Switching to another app, closing the app, etc.) Closed the app
- Did you share the file? Yes- to a student to see their grade/comments.
- Did the app crash? No.

I have the same problem with highlights and notes getting deleted after the app running for some time. It is really frustrating to lose notes and redo things all over again. Please solve this ASAP. I m also answering your previous questions Mr Jeffery Xiong

This is happening to me too. It happens about every 8 minutes on my iPad. I have to set a timer to save. It’s super frustrating because I have to highlight all my notes and make comments again. The app freezes and goes back to the open document screen

I have the same issues and some pdf pages wont even load properly. All of this happened after the latest update. Please fix this issue quickly, a lot of Uni students are struggling.

After this new update, my documents that i have saved all got erased. I can’t find the files that i have work for the past months. If someone have a way to help me get my files back i will deeply appreciate it. Thanks.

Hey Adobe, could you please focus on this issue? It won't save any annotations or highlights. My girlfriend bought her iPad Air solely for that purpose. It works fine on my iPad Pro.

Hi, this original issue is from2018, it is now July 2019 and I still can’t make any annotations because they keep being deleted after coming back. Yes, I’ve clicked the “done button”, using multiple tools, nothing gets saved. The app didn’t crash, I’ve tried deleting the app multiple times, even deleting the file and nothing works. It is really annoying because all my Uni-workload is done on PDFs from my ipad and this way I cannot make any progress.

Same here!! It has happened to me TWICE!! All the time I spent reading and remarking was for nothing!! I am considering others apps to use on my Android tablet.

I will make extensive notes on a document, see them the next day, and then have them disappear a day later. I believe that it has to do with synchronization between multiple devices (iPad Pro, Mac Pro laptop, iPhone, and Mac Pro desktop). This is EXTREMELY frustrating!! The only upside is that it is always faster to complete the work the second or third time...
