Acrobat fails to open subsequent files if cancelling password prompt on password protected PDF

When opening a password protected file, if you press cancel at the prompt, the file closes normally (no instances in task manager) - If you then try to open the same file, or any other PDF file, the application will not open, however there is an instance of acrobat.exe or acrord32.exe in task manager. Ending that process then re-attempting to open the file succeeds.
I was able to reproduce this on multiple computers running the same build of Acrobat Reader or Standard/Pro.
