Acrobat HTML-to-PDF Conversion: Classic Engine Fails to Load Hosted Images, Enhanced Engine Removes Page Layout Controls
Adobe Acrobat Pro's Create PDF from Web Page feature no longer produces the expected results when converting locally stored HTML email documents containing externally hosted images.
Expected Result:
Acrobat should correctly retrieve and display externally hosted images while allowing users to control page dimensions and layout. This workflow has functioned reliably for years using the Classic conversion engine.
Observed Result:
Classic: Externally hosted images fail to load, producing General Error messages referencing the image URLs. Locally stored images display correctly.
Enhanced: Externally hosted images display correctly, but the Page Layout controls are unavailable. The resulting PDF is divided into standard-sized pages instead of preserving the continuous layout required for HTML email production.
Chrome: The same HTML content renders correctly and successfully converts to PDF with all images visible.
Business Impact:
This regression disrupts an established production workflow used to create PDFs from HTML email communications. The available workarounds require manual resizing, cropping or assembling pages, introducing unnecessary production time and opportunities for error.
Requested Resolution:
Restore reliable external image loading in the Classic conversion engine, or provide customizable page dimensions and layout controls in the Enhanced engine.
