Cannot set select tool as default instead of hand tool
I'm trying to make the select tool the default when Acrobat opens instead of the hand tool.
I was running Acrobat DC fine with the select tool as the default on Windows 7. I just got a new computer with Windows 10 and now I'm having trouble. Same version of Acrobat, just a new operating system.
I've tried almost everything mentioned in this thread: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2179758
The one thing I couldn't try was the scrubbing tool, because I have Creative Cloud. I did uninstall and reinstall Acrobat. It didn't work. Then I tried the "Repair Installation" option in the Acrobat help menu. No effect.
My new computer has touch capabilities and I read that disabling touch in Acrobat switches the default back to the select tool. I disabled touch, but it didn't change anything.
I've also tried editing the registry through regedit.exe but it's already showing the select tool as the default. And yet, whenever I open Acrobat, it's still on the hand tool. I tried changing it to "hand", to no effect, and back again, to no effect. Am I missing something? Is there a solution to this?
I spend my entire work day selecting text and images in pdfs. I've never had a use for the hand tool and being forced to have it as the default tool now is a painful and frustrating waste of time. The "make hand tool select text & images" option is useless, since I have to click several times just to select one word in the document. I need the select tool.

I totally agree on wanting to change my default cursor to the Select Tool instead of the Hand Tool. It used to be this way, and worked beautifully for me, and previously, there was an option to change your default.
Why Adobe CHANGED it so the hand tool is the default, after the select tool was the default for YEARS, and you can't change it now, is beyond my comprehension. The hand tool is so limiting, and for the work I do, I NEVER want to use the hand tool, and now Adobe is causing me extra work to have to constantly change the tool, every time I open a new document.
I'm now in version 2019.021.20061, and the problem still has not been resolved.

Have had the same problem. when I disabled the device touchscreen in device manager the select tool stayed as default. with the touchscreen enabled even with touch mode disabled that setting forces the hand tool. Windows 10 Ent 1809 HP 850 G3 with touchscreen Acrobat DC 2017.003.20058

Me too. This sucks. Does Corel do this? All I need is a reader with ability to copy text. Not sure I want to pay $250 a year for this anymore.
