Set Default Link Actions (zoom especially)
I make ADA Accessible documents. Inherit Zoom is a necessary thing.
When I need to combine multiple pdf files into one document I often create a narrative that includes links to other pages of that document. I back up those links with bookmarks.
While it's quite easy to change all of the bookmark actions at once to Inherit Zoom, it's not so easy to change the links.
Currently each link action must be edited individually. And each Zoom is set to custom. There is considerable time taken to adjust each one, especially when I have 50 to 200 links in a document.
Here are the actions required:
- Click Edit PDF
- Click Link then click Add or Edit Document Link
- Make a rectangle over the words or image or comment you want the link to work over
- Select the link action and click next
- Go to the page you want the link to go to and Set the link
- Right click on the link rectangle
- Scroll down and select properties
- Click the Action Tab then click Edit
- Select Inherit Zoom from the Zoom drop down options
- Click OK in the d-box, then click on in the properties d-box
- Close the Edit PDF tool
- Test Link
That's a LOT of steps for one link
And if you have a Return to Narrative link on that page, there's another 12 steps.
Best option is to set this feature in the Document Properties.
Change the Initial View tab to include an option like:
Make all Links (and bookmarks maybe) Zoom to (then list options, INCLUDING Inherit Zoom). Then create this rule. All links (bookmarks too?) use this default unless specifically changed by a Link Action.
Please contact me if you need further explanation, images or a mockup!
Thanks!
Hi,
We are delighted to share with you that Acrobat and Reader Desktop release for DC Continuous (20.012.20041) is Live now and this takes care of this Feature Request
For more Info refer here : https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/whats-new.html
The Set Default Bookmark Zoom Level menu item is now added to the PDF bookmark options. While creating a new bookmark, you can easily use this option to set the default zoom level. By default, the Inherit Zoom option is selected.
Also, Acrobat now provides an option in the bookmark properties to retain the destination page number when you adjust the zoom level of multiple bookmarks.
Please update your Acrobat (It should Auto update or you should do Help → Check for updates) and let us know your Feedback.
Thanks
Ayush Jain

As simply as that . . . PDF readers could have a button to hold the zoom in a desirable size as a primarily option, instead the huge amount of zooms of bookmarks and links inside a PDF document; easy switcheable to the zooms written on the pdf.

The wanted feature in this discussion would seem a no-brainer to me and not difficult for Adobe to provide. All the system needs is input of the size (drag) of the default focus area of the source links and the location (page or uri) of the target location. When the user is toggled in "multiple-link mode", every click after that designates where an identical link is to be placed. Toggle out of the mode and voila! the system just associates each of those clicks with a link to the single specified target andthe focus area size for that instance. That doesn't seem like such a hard thing to provide, does it?

I fear that Acrobat makers consider that they have dealt with the matter, given the "IMPLEMENTED" status to the original post (even though the "inherit zoom" on bookmarks and on links are not the same). However, I sincerely hope that they will revisit the original request.
In the meantime, I have found that you can select many links at once using the ctrl or shift button between clicks and set the properties to "inherit zoom" to all of the selected links at once; this has worked for me, even if all the selected links do not point to the same page.
Now this is not as good as having "inherit zoom" as the default setting when you create links, but it does shorten the link creation process as you do not have to revisit every link you created individually to change the zoom setting; you just have to select every one of your created links and change the setting once.
I also work in a regulated industry where little add-ins do not go over well with our IT department...
Hope this helps,

Yes, It would be very Helpful if Adobe would address this issue wi th being able to set the zoom level of the hyperlinks within the pdf document to inherit zoom as a default setting. As explained by others it is a real pain to have to change all the hyperlinks in the document 1 at a time to accomplish a "inherit zoom" setting in a large pdf document that can have hundreds of hyperlinks. Using inherit zoom is a document standard that is required in many industries, so it is not just a preference that I personally prefer. I must use inherit zoom hyperlinks in documents submitted to the FDA. I have also read in other blogs that Legal documents submitted to courts must be filed using inherit zoom. I hope Adobe program engineers will recognize that there is a great need to have this functionality in their program. Adobe currently has not addressed (implemented) all of ms.TechWriters comments above. Adobe has only addressed the "Bookmark settings" and have not addressed the "Hyperlink settings" within the pdf...which causes the most pain and time to currently set in a document. Just for history completeness.. "PDF Zoom Wizard " is a free tool (2018) that can batch change the zoom level the Bookmarks only. Unfortunately for all of us it does not change the hyperlink setting inside the pdf document.
There is at least one software maker that recognizes this need and has developed a ADD-IN called "Debenu PDF Aerialist" ( https://www.debenu.com/products/desktop/debenu-pdf-aerialist/ ) that claims to be able to do what Adobe Acrobat cannot do on it's own. I am considering buying myself, but I work in a highly regulated industry and I cannot get IT to add new programs to our computer systems easily.
Video that shows the Add-in adding the functionality that Adobe Acrobat doesn't have built in and we wish Adobe Acrobat did include this functionality..

The update for selecting the default zoom level for newly created bookmarks is much appriciated. Would it be possible to do the same for newly created links, as requested by ms. TechWriter?
Thank you,

I would like to be able to change the default zoom level. For my current document, I have to create 248 links in the table of contents. Each link requires 12 mouse clicks to create the link and update the zoom level to inherit zoom. That's 2,976 mouse clicks. That doesn't count the number of clicks to make sure the link goes to the correct page position. If the link target, for example Section 9-5, is near the bottom of the page, I can't arrange the page view so Section 9-5 is near the top of the screen. Instead, Acrobat takes the user to the next page. So I have to finesse the view until I get it right. Then my customer complains that Section 9-5, or the linked table or illustration, does not appear at the top of the screen.

I don't understand why INHERIT ZOOM is not the default property for Adobe links. INHERIT ZOOM works for everyone -- whether they prefer fit width or 90% or 100% or 125% (for those with visual difficulties).
I'm responsible for 1000+ links in our AARP Tax-Aide Resource Guide used by more than 30,000 volunteers. Most volunteers are senior citizens, so INHERIT ZOOM is extremely important.

I am facing one problem in android app of Adobe Reader that it is not recognising and opening the links created with attached PDF file. I have set in action tab 'Open in new window' so that my main file of list remains open in background. But this app is not opening it. I used my laptop and Official Pro version of Adobe. On mobile different ID is used. What to do?
