Inherit Zoom setting for all bookmarks (Court requirements for filing electronic documents)
The standard setting for a bookmark is Fit Width. The ability to change that to Inherit Zoom or other setting is necessary as the Courts require bookmarked documents with Inherit Zoom setting. It takes 8 clicks per bookmark to change this. There is no way to select all bookmarks and change them all at once or make a permanent setting. I submit Administrative Records with hundreds, sometimes thousands of bookmarks and each one of those has to be individually clicked on and changed - x 8 clicks. Very tedious and time consuming.
Hi,
We are delighted to share with you that Acrobat and Reader Desktop release for DC Continuous (20.012.20041) is Live now and this takes care of this Feature Request
For more Info refer here : https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/whats-new.html
The Set Default Bookmark Zoom Level menu item is now added to the PDF bookmark options. While creating a new bookmark, you can easily use this option to set the default zoom level. By default, the Inherit Zoom option is selected.
Also, Acrobat now provides an option in the bookmark properties to retain the destination page number when you adjust the zoom level of multiple bookmarks.
Please update your Acrobat (It should Auto update or you should do Help → Check for updates) and let us know your Feedback.
Thanks
Ayush Jain

That is great. I used Javascript to create bookmarks in similar court documents. However, it ran a javascript when I clicked on the bookmark to take me to the correct page. That worked fine. Unfortunately the State of New York would not let me upload documents that contained that one line of javascript code.
I had to remove that code and manually create the link to the correct page.
Maybe there can be a way to automatically do this rather than create manually 100 bookmarks. Some court documents can contain many pages and many bookmarks.
The one line code for the set action is "this.pageNum = 4", unfortunately the court rejects the document because of that javascript.
I have to manually set the bookmark destination for all bookmarks.
It would be great to automate this job
Thanks

This is the showstopper problem that has prevented me from upgrading from Pro XI - and, ironically, the problem that prompted me to finally try upgrading today, in order to use some third-party workarounds built for the latest version.
I use about 0.1% of Acrobat's features, but bookmarks is one of them. I recognize that different users have different needs, and that Fit Width may be best for some. For others, it's not. Why is such a simple setting - and one that requires so many hundreds/thousands of busywork clicks because it's hardwired - not customizable 1) for all bookmarks in a single operation, or 2) as a default preference?

I edit 100's of bookmarks and hyperlinks to Inherit Zoom everyday. This becomes a real pain, literally!
PLEASE allow users to select Inherit Zoom as default. -

Knowing Adobe, it's probably best to join the beta program as that's where the influence happens. Or if anyone knows the Product Manager, get this to them. I'm very skeptical that forums like this attract any attention.

It's now a year since this request was marked under review, and almost two years since the request was first made. It would be extraordinarily helpful to have this feature enabled. I too submit court filings electronically and as the initial poster pointed out, it is very time-consuming to manually change each bookmark. Allowing end users to choose a default setting for bookmarks, or, making the default Inherit Zoom would be a great improvement and time-saver. Please Adobe, make this happen.

@Anonymous 2019-12-26: try changing 1st bookmark by hand in Adobe. Then follow the same procedure as mentioned 2019-12-19 -> check your exported ASCII txt file for the first bookmark -> some characters in the 1st line (= 1st bookmark) should differ from the original exported txt file.
Those differences should be used for a Find&Replace action to change all bookmarks in your txt file accordingly.
save txt file
jbfbookmarks -> CTRL+ALT+L, or Tools/Load txt file
that should do the trick
jbfbookmarks is quite handy for large scale editing/creating bookmarks by hand ;) -

workaround 2:
download https://sourceforge.net/projects/jpdfbookmarks/
- open file in jpdfbookmarks
- go to first bookmark
- change zoom factor (+ or -)
- the greyed button (top left of pdf) "Inherit zoom factor" shifts to ungreyed -> check this box!
- hold Shift -> select last bookmark -> now all bookmarks should be selected
- “Edit->Set Destination” (CTRL+ALT+A shortcut, or right-click, or button)
- choose “Replace Current” on first question
- choose “Yes” on second question
save file(the above is the simplified version of: https://sourceforge.net/p/jpdfbookmarks/discussion/1070005/thread/bcfe35b7/?limit=25#ae6d)

Workaround:
download https://sourceforge.net/projects/jpdfbookmarks/
open file in jpdfbookmarks
CTRL ALT D or Tools/Dump in menu
save txt file
open txt file in notepad (or any better txt editor)
replace last characters (e.g. "FitWidth,-13") in "TopLeftZoom,0,0,0.0"
save txt file
go to jpdfbookmarks: CTRL ALT L, or Tools/Load
select txt file
save pdf
done!but should be be implemented in Acrobat!

I don't understand why INHERIT ZOOM is not the default property for Adobe links. INHERIT ZOOM works for everyone -- whether they prefer fit width or 90% or 100% or 125% (for those with visual difficulties).
I'm responsible for 1000+ links in our AARP Tax-Aide Resource Guide used by more than 30,000 volunteers. Most volunteers are senior citizens, so INHERIT ZOOM is extremely important.

I can select all bookmarks within a level and change the properties/actions to "fit page" instead of "width." The issue I see is the change does not happen to the sub-level bookmarks. You would think by selecting/changing a higher level bookmark all lower-level bookmarks would change automatically. Or maybe there needs to an option to select all or some bookmarks that need to change.

I am currently using a 3rd-party tool to add bookmarks to my PDFs because of this issue.

It would be great to be able to add the bookmarks in Adobe Acrobat Pro with the default Zoom Level set to "Inherit Zoom. -

Yes, this is a massive pain.
Daniel Kraus' PDF Wizard application has been great, unfortunately it has recently been causing me an unable to save (109) error on some documents. I'm not sure why, possibly an acrobat update. The PDF Wizard still works if you set everything up first and run it last as you will not need to save it again. This is probably your best option.
I am now selecting all bookmarks, right click>properties>Actions>Select Action>Run a Javascript>"this.zoomType=zoomtype.fitP;" which runs a javascript to resize the page after opening the bookmark location. It's not ideal but it works. "fitP" is Fit Page, not sure how you could alter this to "inherit zoom", how is everyone else providing this to the courts, surely they aren't asking for something that isn't currently possible?

Please fix this as soon as possible! It makes creating bookmarks much more time consuming than it should be.

Adobe, please fix this. The Court's require this setting and it is currently a big problem. Thank you.

I am necro-ing this, as it still has not been addressed. For anyone creating PDFs, the default should ALWAYS be 'inherit zoom' as anything else for the end-viewer is jarring and frustrating. Please give us a setting to set defaults for bookmark properties.
