Create Expandable Text Field Forms
Adobe Acrobat Pro needs to have the ability to create expandable text field forms that allow the text box to expand when the user types similar to what you can do with Livecycle.
This is a feature that has been requested a lot online. Currently Acrobat Pro only allows multi-line text field forms with a scroll bar, but you cannot create an expanding text field form that increases in the height of the text field to accomodate more text.
The functionality to create this even in Livecycle is too clunky and complicated to use.

OK, I had enough waiting. It's been "under review" for at least 4 years if not more. I decided to just create a form on a website. Most webhosting tools allow for expandable text objects. This provides the functionality, plus it's online so it's easy to access, and from just about every device. Shame on Adobe for forcing people to go elsewhere. I'll be removing myself from this notification, as I'll never go back to PDF's for this. Good luck everyone for waiting and waiting and waiting ..... MK

Expanding fields would be a game changer. This change would empower users to create more flexible PDF forms that can adapt to respondents needs. Expanding fields are of particular import when thinking about the collection of qualitative information where you do not want to limit entry length. Allowing users to type indefinitely into a non-expanding field is not a user friendly experience.

Annual request to add this feature! It is a basic function and there is NO excuse for it to not have been added yet!

I do not understand how this feature has been under review since 2019!!! Field expansion should have been a basic feature.

Please develop this feature. I work in healthcare and clinicians do not always have the skills to copy and paste into tables so fillable expanding text boxes are important in pdfs

Time to switch to a different product. Sick of waiting for a way to do this. I know competitors have it. Such Trash. Can't even use code.

This is such a HUGE missing design element. Please add this feature already.

Can you at least tell us why you are NOT adding this feature? It would give me some closure.

I can't believe that with a product as 'slick' as Adobe' this aspect is sooo clunky.
Can it really be that difficult?
I'm trying to create workbooks for students to type directly into expanding boxes that are automatically saved.
Surely this isn't beyond you now? -

I have been watching for this feature for a long time. Is it ever going to be added? Expandable text fields would be a game-changer for us.

Lack of this feature makes it tough to deal with cases where free form text descriptions can change. (not to mention translations). I can understand if this requires considering directives to deal with other objects on the page to change size. Word seems to do this but lacks Adobe's strength in form filling.

Still struggling though this Adobe Sign thing with a user base who basically experience the internet through phone screens...
Latest Learning >> LoLz If you look at the Adobe Experience Forms page, they describe Standard PDFs as "Legacy PDFs". >> Responsive forms look to be available only to Experience Cloud customers and not *yet* to Creative Cloud customers.
In the meantime, we'll be building Legacy forms 🦕

I just sent out some school forms with long-answer boxes for e-sign and got them back with the long answer text running on one line off the page and clipped.
It was a substantial chunk of time I spent digging around to learn that I need to individually change the properties on each long answer box as follows
[Text Field Properties] > [Options tab] > ✅Multi-line
[Text Field Properties] > [Appearance tab] > Font size 🔽 Auto
Dig through the web-based E-Sign ap to download csv file for the clipped form fields > rebuild the form > re-send to signer ... ( I don't have time at the moment to write out the full path for that operation. )
There's no apparent way to batch-edit several boxes.
⚠ Another problem I'm encountering is that several fields behave differently depending on whether you add/edit in Acrobat "Prepare Form" tool or in the "Prepare Signature" Tool.
In order to make this moderately useful for my school, I will end up having to make my own video tutorials to share with staff who are in the top percentile of general power users. This is gonna be a headache for everyone else.
It would be great to see
1) uniformity across the tools for form fields, check boxes, etc
2) batch editing for field properties
3) long answer text should not be clipped off and only retrievable though several steps leading to a .csv downloadThank you Adobe Team for considering this feedback! 🙏
