Converting .ai to .pdf
I've been converting .ai to pdf by dragging onto Acrobat DC. By doing this, I don't need fonts or linked images. Had a file that gave me the error: "Acrobat pdf conversion could not be completed. This could be due to a network error or if there is no valid Acrobat online service membership."
Other .ai files convert just fine, but this one file it doesn't work. I dragged onto Acrobat Pro 11 and the file converts just fine. It's curious it works on an older version of acrobat but not DC.

oh man, that was 6 months ago. I was not offline, I was logged in, and other files converted just fine in acrobat dc. I now use acrobat pro 11 to do all my conversions as it is 10x faster than Acrobat DC.
