bookmarks
Don't open bookmarks by default!
When opening a document that has bookmarks embedded in it, the bookmarks panel opens automatically (and slowly) and takes up a third of the screen. It's infuriating, takes several seconds before it can be closed, and is completely pointless. Ditch it, or make it take up a tiny fraction of the screen space. I hate the way Acrobat prioritizes bookmarks over every other aspect of the interface.

Disabling this feature in one file and expecting all subsequent files to follow suit is very erratic and pretty much doesn't work. All the side panels should have a global off setting.
And taking this a step further, it would be logical and intelligent to be able to create pdfs which open without side panels.

I AM BEGGING YOU TO PLEASE MAKE A FEATURE TO DISABLE THE BOOKMARK PANEL AS A GLOBAL PREFERENCE SETTING. HOW IS THIS SOMETHING I HAVE TO ASK FOR IN 2025

I use this feature all the time, Under File>Properties>Initial View to enable or disable Bookmarks Panel + Page when sending large documents to clients. I want my clients to have easy access to my navigation links. When I send a document that requests bookmarks to be opened, I like that they will show up in adobe reader automatically.
I believe you can fix it on your end if you hate it by just setting initial view not to pop up the bookmarks panel... -

Major annoyance, completely unnecessary, and time consuming to remove each time I open a PDF. Please remove this as a default. Or at least allows us the option to toggle this "default" on/off.

Yes, this is driving me crazy. It seems that the comment panel can be turned off universally, so why can't bookmarks? These should be simple user options. Agh!

Couldnt agree more. The fact that this feature is a default option that cannot be overridden, except on a per document basis, is obscene and unnecessary.
