PDFMaker COM Addin crashes Word following Update
Acrobat version: 2026.001.21529, 64-bit
Windows: Windows 11 Pro, 64-bit
Office: Microsoft 365 Word / Current Channel, Copilot-enabled subscription ("Premium") [Microsoft Word for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2604 Build 16.0.19929.20106) 64-bit]
Add-in: Acrobat PDFMaker Office COM Addin
DLL path: C:\Program Files\Acrobat DC\PDFMaker\Office\x64\PDFOfficeAddin.dll
Problem:
PDFMaker launches normally and preferences are editable, but Word crashes mid-conversion.
Important clues:
- Crash occurs with normal Word launch and with Word run as Administrator.
- Acrobat repair completed successfully but did not fix the issue.
- Adobe online Word-to-PDF converts the same DOCX successfully.
- Disabling “Enable Accessibility and Reflow with tagged Adobe PDF” and/or bookmark conversion sometimes allows completion, but not reliably.
- Word asks whether to disable the PDFMaker add-in after crashes.
- Local PDFMaker appears to be the failure path, not basic DOCX convertibility.
- PDFMaker ran normally/as expected and without error UNTIL the day I installed the Acrobat update AND the Microsoft 365 update (2026-05-01)
