Adobe Acrobat Install Results in Adobe Visual Basic Runtime Errors Opening MS Word or MS Powerpoint
After install of Adobe Acrobat Pro 2020 Release (Classic) Version 2020.005.30362 on a brand new Macbook Pro (14 in., 2021) with Apple M1 Max running Monterey version 12.4 already with Microsoft Office successfully installed and working fine, opening Powerpoint or Word for Mac version 16.63.1 (22071401) in Office Home & Business gives multiple, successive Adobe-related Microsoft Visual Basic Runtime Error '53'. Multiple calls with tech support do not resolve the problem. Following advice at https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/run-time-error-53-and-acrobat-freezing-up-not-responding-quot/m-p/11823639 resolves the MS Word errors, but does not resolve the MS Powerpoint errors.

November 7, 2024: Still happening.
Earlier this year, it appears Adobe modified the location of the offending Office plugins, instead of installing within the user's ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User Content.localized/Startup.localized/ folder, they are now installed system-wide in: /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office365/User Content.localized/Startup

It’s been over 2 years since I first upvoted this issue. If there’s anything that I could ask for at this point it would be some sort of acknowledgement from Adobe about this issue. We’re beginning to look to other PDF collab tools and people still request Adobe out of habit, but it’s well past time that we acknowledge that this product is too much pain to procure, manage, and flat out *deal with* than is worth our time.

I have spent almost 2 days trying to solve this problem and have not been able to do anything about it! The linked files linkCreation.dotm and SaveAsAdobePDF.ppam is not possible find in the mentioned directory, so they cannot be deleted. And so the problem appears every time MS WORD and MS POWERPOINT are started. I am totally desperate, I absolutely do not understand how expensive software like Adobe Acrobat is incompatible with other MS Office programs. Both companies should cooperate and release an update immediately so that thousands of users do not have to deal with such problems in a complicated way. After all, this is an elementary thing to solve SW compatibility!

Having this issue as well and every time I "fix" it, it reoccurs as soon as I re-launch Word. Microsoft says this is an Adobe issue.

Could someone at Adobe please make an attempt to resolve this issue, which is still a problem more than two years later? Adobe Acrobat Pro 2020 Release (Classic) Version 2020.005.30710, Check for Updates says 'Adobe Acrobat is already up to date.' Microsoft Word for Mac Version 16.89.1 (24091630). MacBook Air Apple M2 running Sonoma 14.6.1. I have followed previous advice to uncheck the box for linkCreation.dotm Tools > Templates and Add-ins... and removed linkCreation.dotm file from UBF8T346G9.Office > User Content >
Startup > Word folder. I have also disabled the Launch Creative Cloud at login and the Automatic updating in Creative Cloud user settings. Please advise on what further could be done. Many thanks. -

Major Issue across the board, have nearly 110 users with Mac and Removing the Add-in from Word Powerpoint doesn't help. Deleting from Library doesn't resolve as it comes back again.

Adobe this problem has been occurring since at least as far back as 2016:
and is still happening in 2023:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/1180344/fix-visual-basic-application-errorThe problem seems fairly straightforward:
- Every time Adobe Acrobat Pro 2020 gets updated, it installs an add-in to MS Word (linkCreation.dotm) and Powerpoint (SaveAsAdobePDF.ppam)
- This addin fails to find a missing file: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/MACPDFM/MacPDFM.framework/Versions/A/MacPDFMYou need to stop installing add-ins to other apps without asking user permission, this should be an opt-in feature when installing.
You need to either fix the PDF add-ins, or discontinue them.

Issue is ongoing and the solution published elsewhere (e.g. https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/run-time-error-53-and-acrobat-freezing-up-not-responding-quot/td-p/10567310/page/2) to remove the files makes the message disappear but also functionality.
