Bug: Shadows disappear on Windows 10 explorer windows
Adobe Acrobat DC keeps turning off the shadows of my explorer windows. Changing the theme in Acrobat doesn't help.
Workaround if you encounter this problem:
- Windows key + r
- Run: sysdm.cpl
- Advanced
- on Performance -> Settings
- Under Visual Effects tab -> Show shadows under windows -> Apply
Probably repeat after restarting Acrobat

This is infuriating. I wish I would have found this thread sooner because I've spent countless hours trying to resolve this issue.

Is anyone from ADOBE looking into this? I understand that this issue is probably on some a low priority list but this is a very annoying behaviour.

I can recreate this issue two ways so far.
1. If I open a PDF from an Internet Explorer browser and it opens IN the browser (no other browser does this)
- If you go into Manage Add-Ons and then under Show, select "Run without permissions", click the Adobe PDF Reader and DISABLE
- This effectively makes the app open the PDF itself and not within the browser2. Any time I attempt to add comments in a PDF, it removes the shadow as well.
I have the following version of Adobe Acrobat Pro DC:
Continuous Release | Version 2020.006.20042This happens on both Pro and Reader alike.

Oh, I was wondering why this was constantly happening. So Acrobat was causing this all along :P

Still no fix. Adobe are you listening?

Still not fixed 6 months after this has been reported.

I noticed that here the problem is discussed for Acrobat ("Pro"),
but for me at least it is true for (Acrobat) Reader DC.
so I created a separate thread for Acrobat Reader DC just in case, with a link to this page. -

but in any case this is very irritating and a very stupid thing to do all the time.
Adobe developers, would you finally do something about it?
-
Максим Федотов commented
yeah, or you can do
1. Windows + R
2. SystemPropertiesPerformance.exe
3. check the "Show shadows under windows" checkbox
4. "Apply" -

Same here. Too bad i deployed this piece of **** software on about 1500 machines already.
EDIT: Verified on fresh w10 1909 install + latest Adobe Pro DC
Reported this to Adobe Support. Helpdesk told me problem is not known on their side - It will be internally forwarded. -

I had been experiencing this issue after installing DC last week. As a workaround, I created a shortcut on my Desktop to:
%windir%\system32\systempropertiesperformance.exe

I wish Adobe would listen and fix this! I just update to version 20 and it still does it. . . .
