Bug: Shadows disappear on Windows 10 explorer windows
Adobe Acrobat DC keeps turning off the shadows of my explorer windows. Changing the theme in Acrobat doesn't help.
Workaround if you encounter this problem:
- Windows key + r
- Run: sysdm.cpl
- on Performance -> Settings
- Under Visual Effects tab -> Show shadows under windows -> Apply
Probably repeat after restarting Acrobat
Bryan Evans: I'm on that version and it fixed my issues completely. Maybe you have something else going on?
Bryan Evans commented
This has NOT been fixed. I made sure both Acrobat and Reader are updated (from the Help menu) and both are v20.009.20074.
With the latest release this issue has been fixed. Please Upgrade to the latest version by doing Help >> Check for Updates. Please feel free to reach out in case of any issues.

I assume that most/many of you have already found the update. I got it through Help > Check for Updates in Acrobat (it hadn't shown up in my CC app).
It would have been nice if this bug had never happened at all, but it's also good to know that maybe we all helped get it fixed by posting here.

thanks, Adobe developers!
Woo hoo!! Thanks for finally fixing this!
Steve, I didn't see any updates on Creative Cloud Desktop app but I *did* see an update from Acrobat menu (on Windows 10): "Help" → "Check for Updates..."
Looks like it is rolling out. You can manually install using this link (which also contain the patch notes describing the fix): https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC/continuous/dccontinuousmay2020.html#dccontinuousmaytwentytwenty
Hey, Michael Tobin: what platform are you using (Mac/Win) and what version are you running? I did not see an available update on Creative Cloud Desktop so I'm very curious.

It's a miracle! I just updated Acrobat and it doesn't break drop shadows anymore, at least when I open the "Comments" tool (I haven't tried the "Don't open in tabs" option).
With the latest May Release we have Fixed this issue. Please update Acrobat DC with the latest Version. feel free to reach out in case of any queries.
I have this too with acrobat dc pro, whenever I press comment, shadows under windows disappear. So once we don't have any update by adobe, I made a workaround so I don't need to turn on shadows every single time I open pdf's. I turn on the little border in windows (this is turned off, but to turn it on is very easy), i don't have the shadows but with this 1px border i always see where my windows are and it's easy to resize for example.
We're six months further from the initial post and it is still not fixed. According to https://supportdownloads.adobe.com/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows there have been updates on 3/17/2020 and 2/11/2020 -- but this particular issue has not been resolved.
For me it is inconceivable that an application is even capable of changing such a user preference, accidental (which would be quite a feat of non-accomplishment) or not (which is absolutely unimaginable).

Yes it is really annoying. You'd think shadows are a decoration, but with Windows 10's ultra-flat style they are actually essential to clearly differentiating between windows.
This is infuriating. I wish I would have found this thread sooner because I've spent countless hours trying to resolve this issue.
Is anyone from ADOBE looking into this? I understand that this issue is probably on some a low priority list but this is a very annoying behaviour.
Same problem - I have a Radeon RX580 - and here are my driver versions (in case it's relevant):
