Acrobat icon in Windows 10 menu
I have already reported the fact that, when installing or updating Adobe Acrobat (which happens rather often), the program icon in the Windows menu is incorrect. I know how to bypass the problem by creating manually the good icon, but each time Acrobat is updated, this bad icon reappears (see screenshot).
This is a VERY long lasting bug. So please, fix it!!!
Thank you
Hi,
Could you please try the following steps and let us know if the issue is resolved:
• Delete Adobe Acrobat icon from the Start Menu, the desktop and from the taskbar.
• Go to C: > ProgramData > Microsoft > Windows > Start Menu > Programs and you’ll find the " Adobe Acrobat DC " with the wrong icon. The that looks like a shortcut. Delete it and close the window.
• Go to C: > Program Files (x86) > Adobe > Acrobat DC > Acrobat and find Acrobat.exe
• Right click on Acrobat.exe > Send to > Desktop
• Right click again on Acrobat.exe > Pin to Start Menu… and close the window
• Right click on Acrobat.exe – shortcut (that you just created on your desktop) > Copy
• Go back to: C: > ProgramData > Microsoft > Windows > Start Menu > Programs… and Paste the shortcut here (you need administrator privileges for that)
• Rename this shortcut from “Acrobat.exe – shortcut” to “Adobe Acrobat DC” and close the window
• Again pin the icon on the taskbar.
Thanks
Atir

I'm going to guess this issue has been fixed for quite a while. I had this issue around the time this was posted, but haven't had any problems with this for a while. They probably just haven't marked it as resolved. No one has commented on this for quite some time.

I'm baffled that as I peruse through hundreds of various comments about significant issues that affect users' productivity, failure of core features to function, etc, that this is the first UserVoice item that I've seen a response from Adobe.
I'm not suggesting it's the only response /ever/ from Adobe in UserVoice, but it seems telling and consistent with a broken organization to respond to an annoying and persistent minor issue with a temporary workaround.

I'd like to add my voice to this. This issue has been around for years. If you go through all of the hassle of getting the icon to show again, it will ***** itself up. Really irritating.

This is incredible. Such a simple bug to fix for a corporate giant like Adobe. It's been here for years and they aren't even mildly interested in getting it repaired.

@Ryan Steele, yeah, Adobe's unwillingness to follow industry standards and instead offering half hearted temporary workarounds is baffling. Even if you use that paint workaround, who's to say it doesn't break when there is a windows update, I bet it does. This is a bug in Adobe's software which would take 30 seconds for someone with access and understanding to fix but we seem to be stuck with people who don't have access or understanding as gatekeepers to those who do.

There is a workaround documented in the response from Am_I_Helpful at https://superuser.com/questions/996373/icon-adobe-reader-dc-on-taskbar-is-wrong which is to set the program association for .ICO files to Microsoft Paint. As Adam points out, however, the SC_Reader.ico file to which the Start Menu shortcut points is not actually an .ico file.
Atir, I am somewhat baffled that a Software Engineer would be recommending a hacky workaround which will be quickly undone the next time Acrobat Reader updates itself. Can you perhaps contact the engineer responsible for building the installer for this product so the root cause of this long-standing issue can be addressed?

@Adobe, any update of this problem?
It seems the icons in C:\Windows\Installer\{AC76BA86-1033-FFFF-7760-0C0F074E4100} are actually executables, not true .ico files which throws off Windows.

What is the current situation of this issue and when Adobe will fix the bug? Many people has been complaining this just like Adobe Support Community shows.

Yes, every time the software updates, it breaks the fix.

Hi, I have recognized the same bug. I also tried the fix by @ahusain and I can confirm that it works but it will only resolves the problem temporary. After this fix, when Adobe Acrobat installs the latest software update, the icon problem will reappearing again. Using latest version of Adobe Acrobat Pro 2017 (17.011.30152) (Classic Release).
Also other users has reported this bug on Adobe Support Community: https://community.adobe.com/t5/Acrobat-Reader/Adobe-Reader-icon-not-showing-on-Windows-10/td-p/7565121

I am getting this same bug (except it's just the Windows blank piece of paper) and it is very irritating. I always look for it in the task bar and can't find it but then realize it's the piece of paper which is Acrobat DC.
