1. Recognition of Indian Language OCR

   The idea is not new, but the gravity is certainly very heavy.

   Acrobat being so popular, wonder how its OCR is so inferior that it cannot recognise any of the Indian Languages?

   It's even more intriguing when many free softwares like tesseract and professional software like Google Vision can do with ease. These software do their job for years now.

   Wonder what's holding Acrobat and Adobe back in catching up with them.

2. Bug report: Toolbar emtpy

   If I select any tool in the most recent version, the sidebar turns black/white but is otherwise empty. OCR and editing of a document are therefore impossible.

3. ocr multi

   While doing OCR in one document, i would like to read another open pdf. Instead the program is fully locked in OCR for that pdf, and can't do additional task's. Some kind of multithreads function should been enabled/created for this, thanks.

6. Changing OCR language results in immediate crash

   I have documents in both French and English. Changing the OCR language from English US to French results in an immediate crash, repeatedly. Note that changing to English UK does not.

   I removed by Prefs file, and all starts working again....for a couple of days. I first scan French! Then English! But when I go back to French, an immediate crash.

7. We can't mark something in OCR as "not text" anymore in the new UX/UI

   I'm trying Acrobat Pro and it seems that the new UI that we can try doesn't allow me to correct OCR by marking something as "not text". With the old UI, you can simply erase the garbage text next to the picture, and press "OK" or whatever, then this part of the document stops being considered as text.

8. Adobe failing to recognise English text despite multiple OCR scans run

   I've tried running OCR scans for English text multiple times on my document but it never works despite my document's text being very clear. I'm running version 2023.006.20320. It is quite disappointing that Acrobat can't even recognise the text when it's so clear. It's not like this scan was a poor quality scan even!

9. Ocr not available in Acrobat Pro error message

   I have Acrobat Pro and tried to scan a pdf with OCR which gave me a message which said something about I have to pay for the OCR feature. This led me to finding the below support doc indicating OCR is part of Acrobat Pro.

   Clicking on the same exact button again it brought up the ocr tools instead of displaying the message, but I wouldn't have necessarily thought to try the same thing twice until after searching the web for which adobe product I would need to purchase to use OCR in Acrobat Pro (it's built in as it turns out)

   Whatever caused this error message to show up should be addressed

10. OCR character recognition issue

    When copying and pasting serial numbers which contain letters and numbers from PDFs in Adobe Acrobat Pro, the S is often mistaken for 5 and B is mistaken for 8. OCR should be enhanced to preclude this issue from happening.

11. Recognizing the difference between 5 and 6

    Given that I believe Adobe OCR is the best on the market to-date it still has a problem recognizing the difference between a 5 and a 6. I find when it converts scans to "courier new" is when the problem truly manifests itself. In the attached files is a scan of a receipt scanned on a Cannon TR7520, using SCAN GEAR, "UNSHARP MASK" on, with other settings to darken scan. Also the converted file is included. Generally It properly converts to a five but if enough "debris" is included in the loop, it converts to a 6, it seems to ignore the right angle in the number.

13. OCR for very wide PDFs (J16, J24, J32, J40, J48)

    My industry has a need to perform OCR on very wide PDF. J16 is essentially two E-size drawings wide, and J48 is 6 E-size drawings wide.

    Today, Acrobat DC Pro (and its predecessor) give "Unknown error" when trying to do OCR on such a large PDF.

    I am asking Nitro and Adobe to enhance their tools to support such wide PDFs, so OCR can work.

15. Hotfolder OCR

    Acrobat should have the functionality to automate processes like OCR with a hotfolder. Let's say you scanned smth, the file arrives at your selected folder which is a hotfolder -> Acrobat should now perform an OCR without any further input of the user.

16. Show current file total page count in batch OCR

    Currently the dialog box for a batch OCR process shows the current file number and the total number of files, it then shows the current page number being worked on but it doesn't show the total number of pages in the current file so you don't know how long that particular file has left to do.

    In addition, it would also be very useful to have an option to "Abort batch after current file complete"

17. OCR should recognize industry standard OCR characters and optical scan/reader codes

    Acrobat DC for Mac's OCR continuously mis-recognizes standardized OCR characters such as those on checks and commercial forms. Those characters are designed to be highly readable at high speed and a standard quality scan (let alone a high quality one) should be sufficient for proper recognition by Acrobat.

    Similarly, it routinely tries to translate address codes (the string of full and half-height vertical bars used by postal readers to sort mail), even if it does occasionally recognize the entire code as one "word." Fortunately, it usually includes it for review, but it shouldn't be difficult to recognize the standardized format, or even catch that "IiIII1II1IIi!ii" is highly unlikely to not be text, especially when it goes on for 2-3+ inches. (If anything, I would expect Acrobat to recognize the code as its alphanumeric translation--not a feature I'm requesting.)

    QR-type codes also should be recognizable as such. Both the large consumer size and the small "thumbnail" commercial size found on forms and bills are a standard that Acrobat's OCR engine "knows" and doesn't try to recognize as text characters.

    All cases are consistent errors based on 300 ppi black & white scans with no compression, from "crisp" printing and no background. This has been replicated on four scanners from three separate manufacturers, two sheet-fed only (Brother and Epson) and two both sheet-fed and single page from the platen glass (high- and mid-grade HP OfficeJet series).

    Acrobat DC for Mac's OCR continuously mis-recognizes standardized OCR characters such as those on checks and commercial forms.
