2. Improve OCR stability

   Acrobat DC, Windows 10, 16 GB RAM, relatively fast processor.

   (1) I frequently must OCR documents of 2,000 pages or more. With Acrobat for Mac (which I used from 2012 to 2018), I could start the OCR process, go away for an hour or two or three, and it would be finished with the entire document when I returned. With Acrobat DC for Windows, if I try to OCR more than about 150 pages at a time, Acrobat will crash. Not immediately, but after it's run for 10 minutes or so. All progress will be lost. I will have to specify a smaller range of pages, and restart the OCR process. OCR'ing less than 150 pages at a time means I must manually restart the process every few minutes. Which means I cannot sustain focused attention on any other task while Acrobat processes the file.

   (2) Some data errors (bad font width, etc.) will cause the OCR process to stop, or Acrobat to crash. I return to my computer expecting the entire file to have been OCR'd, and I find it stopped after a few pages and I must restart the process. Acrobat should be able to skip the page with the data error, OCR the rest of the document, and generate an error report identifying the page(s) that could not be OCR'd.

4. Icelandic OCR

   In fact, all languages supported by the open source tesseract project should be available to Adobe customers. Better yet, Adobe licenses OCR from I.R.I.S. S.A. and meanwhile Readiris 17 has support for 130 languages, including Icelandic. Time to update or lose some license restrictions and move open source. What are you paying for, other than sub-par technology? Tesseract is a project supported by Google with an Apache 2.0 license.

   Foxit and ABBYY Finereader also have support. Adobe is severely lagging behind here. The tesseract engine is particularly good at character recognition but does not have a very nice interface. There are scholars all over the world that study this language. Editions of medieval texts are especially popular, and tesseract is actually pretty good at older editions of manuscripts, thanks to community based work on tesseract training. It's a shame to not be able to scan in and use OCR on these documents straight from an Adobe product. It would make it much easier for translators to input text into a computer aided translation tool, and could provide the impetus for a windfall of new publications.

   When there is an open source solution available it is a real shame that a paid-for consumer product cannot provide access to the same level of language support. I chose Adobe over the other commercial options for access to a wider range of professional level software, but am left disappointed by this aspect of the software while every other piece of OCR software on the market today beats Adobe out in this field.

   This is a sore disappointment, and has been for some time now.

6. Why don't you inform your customers that Arabic is not supported when they buy or subscribe to your products?

   Arabic language is not supported, so OCR does not support arabic and exporting Arabic pdf files to other formats is not possible.

7. Connect Adobe Scan/Online to Dropbox (save scans to DB)

   I use Adobe Scan (Pro) for iOS for scanning hundreds of archival documents for research. The scans are saved to Adobe Document Cloud by default, no other storage loation is possible. However, I need offline access to the files from several devices, whereby Adobe Online is an unacceptable option (as the name suggests). Instead, I would want to save all scans to my Dropbox automatically, which is a built-in feature in many other scanning apps (e.g., Abbyy FineScanner). Adobe, on the other hand, makes transferring scans to Dropbox infuriatingly cumbersome.

   Currently, there is no other way than a) to share each individual file from the app, or b) to download files in bulk on my desktop from Adobe Document Cloud as a zip folder, save it to my Dropbox folder and then unzip the folder to get access to the actual files – even though all of this takes place on one single computer.

   Needless to say, the chances of human error are remarkable, especially compared to the option of having all scans stored in the desired location automatically. It is also impossible to stay on track whether a specific file in Dropbox is the latest version (i.e., whether there's an edited version in Adobe DC).

   I would prefer if the scans were uploaded to Dropbox as copies of the ones in Adobe Online, and edited files were uploaded separately (i.e., Scan.pdf, Scan-1.pdf etc. in Dropbox; Scan.pdf in Adobe Scan/Online). This way, I would have both the latest file as well as a version management system. However, syncing the AO Scans folder as it is to Dropbox would also be acceptable.

   If Adobe for some reason finds this impossible to implement, could you AT LEAST enable moving files to Dropbox by drag & drop in Adobe Online instead of the bothersome zipping back and forth?

8. No way to correct OCR errors in Acrobat pro DC

   There is a major problem with OCR in Acrobat Pro CD. I have recognized (OCR) text in many documents. They still contain a lot of recognition errors in the hidden text used for search. When I try to use the function/tool "Correct Recognized text" (translated from Norwegian), I get a message saying that there are no suspected errors. It is not possible to correct the remaining errors. This is just stupid, there is no 100% correct OCR program, there are lots of errors in the recognized text. There must be a way to fix the remaining errors, but your technical support tells me that it is not possible. Until this is fixed, I can not use the product.

9. Change default "Home" screen in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC

   When using Adobe Acrobat Pro for scanning documents every 10 minutes, I need to have a "Home" screen with only one button - "Create PDF" + "From Scanner" + "Grayscale Document (front side)".

   The new setting is driving me crazy. I wish I could downgrade to the old Adobe Acrobat design!

11. OCR character conversion

    Adobe does not convert OCR characters when converting a PDF to a Word document. This is an important feature to many people. Other PDF software offers this. Adobe needs to realize the importance of this feature that has been offered for over a decade by other software companies.

    As Abbyy states "Optical Character Recognition, or OCR, is a technology that enables you to convert different types of documents, such as scanned paper documents, PDF files or images captured by a digital camera into editable and searchable data."

    If Abbyy can do it, why can't Adobe? I will have to use Abbyy for now. Maybe, in the future, Adobe will be able to come into modern PDF conversions. Then, I will subscribe.

12. OCR function improvement.

    Hello,

    I have noticed that some of the other OCR software performs better than Adobe Acrobat DC OCR function... i.e. Power PDF. I wonder if you can improve it's functionality as far as recognizing the characters is concerned?...

15. Please fix the deskew feature in Adobe Pro DC

    I used to deskew in Adobe Acrobat Pro whenever I OCR'ed a document. And the deskewing worked so well: every page would be rotated a tiny amount and usually the improvement was noticeable.

    In Adobe Acrobat DC (on macOS 10.15.7), the "Recognize Text" function no longer performs deskewing. So I OCR and deskew using the "Enhance" function under Scan & OCR:

    Scan & OCR > Enhance > Scanned Document > Deskew

    However it doesn't seem to work. Although the Deskew feature is turned on in Filters under Settings, when I run Enhance, it doesn't actually deskew. (And worse, unless I change the default image quality to High Quality, the image is degraded.) I thought maybe my documents were all 100% aligned. But then I ran into a document that clearly needed deskewing and nothing happened when I deskewed.

    It seems to me that from one version to the next, routine tasks should become more convenient to perform. This is not what's happened.

17. OCR for Tibetan and Devanagari

    Please develope OCR for Tibetan and Devanagari (More then 120 languages use it such as Hindi, Nepali, Marathi, Maithili, Awadhi, Newari and Bhojpuri and Classical Sanskrit). This would benefit millions of people and would be a huge contribution to humanitarian sciences, which deal with manuscripts in these languages, trying to retrieve ancient wisdome that is in much need in these modern times.

18. text selection

    Text selection is really really bad, on most documents (even on well structured digital documents). I cannot describe how frustrating it is to use in the day to day.

    Best workaround is to screenshot documents and use the text recognition of the snipping tool (on windows), that while not always perfect, is miles ahead of the text selection on Adobe Acrobat.

    Adobe cannot not know that issue at this point, after all those years developing and maintaining acrobat and still this bad in inconceivable. Hope to see an improvement on that part one day!

19. scan and text recognition

    The scanning feature and text recognition has become very faulty recently and can't even detect text on a document that has been converted from Word. This means that it is impossible to search certain words using ctrl+F and when trying to highlight a specific word or line it just highlights half of the page. Please could this issue be looked into as this function used to work fine.

20. Enhance Camera Image Fails in new UX

    After the latest update I am unable to use the Enhance Camera Image option when performing OCR. I am given the handles to select the border area of the document, but the popup window with the "Enhance" button does not appear, leaving me unable to continue.
