Is there a way to scan a document for text without making that text editable?
I want scanned documents to be searchable, and I want people to be able to copy/paste text from the documents, but I don't want them to be able to edit that text. I cannot find a setting that allows that.

Please bring back Clearscan
I really need Clearscan back. I don't want editable texts, but I just want characters to be smoothed out. I feel that there should be an option for this. I am Japanese, and usually scan Japanese characters. Editable texts might work for alphabets, but not really for Asian characters. I upgraded from Acrobat XI to Acrobat to Acrobat pro 2017, but scanning experience with this 2017 version was the worst as far as ocr was concerned.

Cannot type special characters (e.g. š, č, ć) when correcting recognised text
For example, if I type "Tomić" when correcting recognised text, after clicking "Accept" it changes to "þÿ".
I'm using Acrobat DC version 2018.011.20055 on Windows 10 Pro version 1803.

Georegistration tool - Renew the availablility of georegistration tools.
Many softwares are geospatially aware and can operate on a GeoPDF. Unfortunately most PDF based maps don't typically inherit and/or include a geodetic coordinate reference system (CRS), as the source is often a scanned map or JPG, PNG or other non-spatially aware image format. The ability to easily create a GeoPDF is a valuable way to promote their use, and the previously included georegistration tools were very effective. Assuming that the CRS uses a standard WGS-84 GCS the process is straight forward and easily performed. An enhanced toolset could include standardized alternate coordinate systems with translatable codes - such as…

Please add OCR support for East Asian Languages (CJK) in vertical format
Currently Acrobat Pro DC recognizes Chinese and Japanese (and probably Korean) in left-to right horizontal format, but does not handle vertical text reliably. The apparent reason is that in edit mode text areas are always defined horizontally. An explicit configuration option for vertical text would fix this. The attached file if a pdf scan of the first section of a recently published Japanese book.

PRO DC Does not perform OCR well if at all
Pro DC is awful for performing OCR. It recognizes very little text, even with a clean scan. It also does not install native Windows fonts to add text to a document. XI did both of these things very well.

I use Adobe Acrobat to convert images to ext. After upgrade to DC, Acrobat will no longer recognize text.
I use Adobe Acrobat to convert images to ext. After upgrade to DC, Acrobat will no longer recognize text. Why? Error box says Adobe is probably corrupt and to reinstall. I did. Same problem.

Latin OCR support
An ocean of old texts are in Latin. Many of these need OCR. Support on this would be most welcome as they are often the subject of academic work.

Bad Sequence of Events when Scanning
I scanned a document into Acrobat Pro to create a PDF. I then mailed the original document to the destination. Acrobat then forced me to sign-in & the document scan was gone. If you are going to force a user to sign-in, consider doing so before you let them use the tools.

Bug: Errors when trying to "scan-optimize" a signed PDF
I have a signed/certified PDF. Manipulations on this document are per se forbidden. However, Adobe Acrobat Pro DC allows to run the scan-optimizer (OCR, rectification, etc.) which causes a row of error messages: For every PDF-page, it shows two pop ups.

Icelandic OCR
In fact, all languages supported by the open source tesseract project should be available to Adobe customers. Better yet, Adobe licenses OCR from I.R.I.S. S.A. and meanwhile Readiris 17 has support for 130 languages, including Icelandic. Time to update or lose some license restrictions and move open source. What are you paying for, other than sub-par technology? Tesseract is a project supported by Google with an Apache 2.0 license.
Foxit and ABBYY Finereader also have support. Adobe is severely lagging behind here. The tesseract engine is particularly good at character recognition but does not have a very nice interface. There…

Old Adobe was better
In prior Adobe Acrobat versions scanned pages could easily be inserted into an existing file as a new first page. or between any two previously existing pages. That was excellent as I always add pages to the top of existing documents. That feature appears to have been stupidly eliminated. I want the old Adobe!
1 voteThis functionality is still there. You can insert pages at any location you want. Follow the steps:
1. Open any file in Acrobat
2. Go to Organize Pages app
3. Click on “Insert → From Scanner” option
4. Select options to scan and click scan button
5. A dialog will come asking where to insert scanned pages. Now you can select any option suites you. Also, at step 3 you can hover around pages where you want to add scanned pages, there will be a “+” button. Clicking it will add pages at that location only.
Please feel free to ask anything you want.

Post Scan review and correction
During the correction process utilize a dictionary to look up words which contain most characters as determined by scan and in the same left to right order. Present these as choices to be picked rather than only allowing change via direct editing. Permit editing after a choice is made however because the choice might only be close.
So often I have seen "print" scanned as "primt" for instance. Since most text is words in a dictionary the correction process can offer alternative spellings with some high degree of probability that one of them is correct. This could also be used…

Improved text scanning
Preprocess text scans by determining the fix width used for spaces recognizing that the gaps between words can be integral spaces. Use that information to bound the locations containing characters within a box which have no room for one or more space between them.
During later text scanning make the presumption that the box contains text only and no spaces so that "2012" is not scanned as two fields such as "20 " and "12 " or as "20 I " and "2". Recognition of space wideth can also be used to determine with greater accuracy when some blob is…

Improved scanning process.
Preprocces to recognize features of forms such as boxes with or without checks and the boxes around fields.
I scan image documents to be able to search for technical reviews or to export them to excel, access, or word. Current situation: On forms empty or full check boxes are frequently recognized as text and the text is wrong and takes a long time to correct. The same occurs with text near boundaries around form fields. If form type features such as check boxes and field boundaries can be recognized by a scanning algorithm very different from the small box scan…
