1. Acrobat DC crashes, then toolbar reverts back to default.

   I mostly use the Edit or Prepare Form tools. While I'm updating my document, Acrobat crashes at random times. There is nothing consistent, it just seems to be more finicky after the most recent update. After it crashes, I reopen it and the customized toolbar on the right has reverted back to the default tools. This is very inconvenient and happens several times a day while editing or preparing a document. Is this a known issue and is there a fix for this?

4. Page organization functionality has been lost in new update

   The new pages organization tool is more difficult and less intuitive, and its “insert page” option in particular is much less useful than it used to be, please fix it.
   The most important problem is with the "insert page" function alone. When you select "file" for "insert page" it no longer lets you add more than one file at once. I frequently use Acrobat to merge several PDFs into one PDF and now I have to add each file one by one, this is incredibly time consuming, tedious, and wholly unnecessary.
   Another problem I have with the new method is the size of the page organization tool—I can only organize pages in the left sidebar now, when before it let you see it in the main screen, which allowed for a larger view and to see the pages in grid order, instead of just in a tight row. This is frustrating as it makes it harder to visualize my document as a whole while I am trying to re-arrange it as a whole.
   Lastly is a more minor issue. The first problem I encountered with it was the icon. In general, the icons for the new user interface are mostly too small and many are unclear. Further, they don't tell you what they do if you hover over them, you have to actually click the symbol to be given any description/text options. The icons in the toolbar aren't all bad, but it is very hard to find how to add, delete, or move pages. Not only is that icon in a confusing place all on its own, the little four grid square symbol does not intuitively represent that function. In fact, it is confusingly the same symbol used for switching between list or grid view on the open recents menu. So, when I fist saw it, I naturally thought it was just an option to view the PDF in a side-by-side grid view instead of just a single-row scroll. Please make an icon that actually makes sense.

5. Give me back a real menu -- where is "OPEN" or "SAVE AS" or....?

   Man. This sucks. Somehow I got 5 PDFs open in one Acrobat window. They are all lined up as tabs. That's cool.
   Now I want to "SAVE AS" ... there's no file menu available anywhere. All I can see is "CONVERT, SIGN, MORE" at the top bar.
   
   Hitting the HOME icon takes me to an indecipherable mish-mash of options to add comments, open recent documents (which duh are already open) or look at "Starred" files. (huh?) Oh, and the side menu now has a bunch of "cloud storage" options (which are useless... I just want to save the open file as a new name.

6. Old UI was Better

   Basically the old Adobe Acrobat Reader UI was significantly better and it continues to get worse. I often hop from PC to PC and every time I need to reinstall Reader I have to go and hunt down the settings to change everything back. It's taxing. Obnoxious. Here are the most important key changes that I have to make every time:

   1. The toolbar used to be docked at the top of the screen with tools like select, highlight, page navigation (back, forward, page up, page down), zoom, etc. Now it is a floating pane. I need it docked at the top.

   2. Page navigation tools including TOC and bookmarks used to be docked on the left side of the app. Now it's not there. I need it docked left.

   3. More tools used to be docked on the right side of the app like Export PDF, Edit PDF, Create PDF, etc and I could collapse it so I didn't actually see it. Now it is replaced with some kind of page navigation pane with "Edit, delete, or reply to comments", "Add, delete, or go to a specific bookmark", page thumbnails, next page and previous page and zoom. I need it the other older way.

   4. The old app interface had File, Edit, View, Sign, Window, Help in the top toolbar with Home and Tools in a toolbar just below that with the open files as tabs next to them in that same toolbar. Now there is just a Menu button with a bunch of options and a home button and the open files as tabs next to that menu and home button. I need it the old way.

   There's more too but this where I have to start over each time. It's awful. Why did you one day just decide the way everyone had been using it for years needed to be changed? And now I have to keep changing it back and have been doing so for years and I'm sick of it.

   And while I'm at it, remove any traces of AI from your products. Didn't ask for it. Don't need it. Don't want it.

7. Put Text Select Tool on Standard Toolbar

   Unfortunately Acrobat DC buries an important tool; the ability to select text. I believe it is hidden somewhere, but I have yet to find it. It is very common to want to select some text in a document. Why bury a common task deep within the program? There seems to be the trend these days with software to a have a minimalist interface and bury the most common tools. My toolbar has the least commonly used tools as standard.

13. Validation of signed PDFs against (all applicable national) law(s)

    In Switzerland, as in the EU and many other countries, appropriately digitally signed documents in PDF format are legally fully equivalent to paper-based original documents, signed in handwriting by (one or more) signatories in the presence of witnesses.

    STATUS QUO

    Country specific differences in national law applicable to establishing the legal adequacy of digitally signed documents with their paper-based equivalents require country specific validation of digitally signed documents against applicable sets of criteria.

    The following criteria need to be fulfilled, in order for a digitally signed PDF file to be considered VALID in the sense of LEGALLY COMPLIANT with the intended purpose:

    1 - Signature and integrity of the signed file

    The document must be checked to see whether it has been modified since it was signed.

    2 - Revocation status of the signing certificate

    The signed certificate is checked to see if it was issued by a competent, accredited and trusted authority and if it was valid and not revoked (invalidated) at the time it was signed.

    3 - Validity of the time stamp

    A signed time stamp (TSA; Time Stamping Authority) from a recognised provider confirms the time the document was signed regardless of the computer’s system clock.

    4 - Authorised certificate for this document type

    Check whether a document has been signed with an appropriate certificate for the intended purpose

    CHALLENGE

    Some but not all of these legal requirements can be checked and validated by suitable software, such as Adobe's PDF Reader or Acrobat) used for opening and viewing the signed PDF document.

    Whether a particular certificate used for signing a PDF document was legally compliant with all of the country's applicable laws at the time the document was signed, requires validation of the document against an officially approved set of potentially country specific criteria.

    The publicly accessible validator.ch service of the Swiss Federal Administration provides such a validation service free of charge.

    This validator.ch service currently enables 10 different types of digitally signed documents to be validated against all applicable national laws.

    A formal validation protocol can be downloaded in certified PDF format. The validation protocol can be used along with the digitally signed PDF document as evidence to prove its validity.

    Experience with hundres of digitally executed transactions based on digitally signed PDF documents shows :

    Most recipients/readers of signed PDF documents to date will reject the digital document as being "insufficient / not trusted". Most recipients / readers will treat digital documents similar to copies. to be used for information purposes, but not to be relied upon. For lack of trust and better knowledge most recipients / readers still insist on receiving paper signed in handwriting, submitted via postal service rather than e-mail, either instead of or at least in addition to the digitally signed PDF document.

    Experience also shows that most recipients / readers of digitally signed PDF documents will accept such documents and will not insist on additional paper if they receive a validation report along with the signed PDF document. A positive validation report issued in the name of the Swiss Federal Administration never fails to impress the reader / recipient.

    Senders of digitally signed PDF documents can raise the acceptance with recipents / readers dramatically by validating the signed documents using validator.ch and sending both, either as a single PDF portfolio file, or as two separate PDF files . Sending both files as a single PDF file using PDF portfolio file format is most elegant - but may limit recipients / readers ability to open and view the files in non-Adobe browser plugins / PDF readers.

    Providing the two separate files with a common filename but different ending (e.g. -sig and -val) is highly recommended. It facilitates recognition of the "signed document" and its associated "validation protocol".

    SUGGESTION

    Submitting a digitally signed PDF document to an official validation service, such as validator.ch, is currently a manual process that requires some 15-20 seconds for uploading the signed document and downloading the validation protocol through a web interface using a browser.

    The ability to validate a signed PDF document by simply pushing a button, in the application used for creating / signing respectively opening / reading the PDF file, would be most valuable for all users, whether as senders / signatories or as recipients / readers of signed PDF documents.

    In addition to the web interface that validator.ch provides for manual upload of signed PDF documents and download of certified validation reports, validator.ch service can be accessed via API for discrete validation of signed PDF documents. The discrete validator.ch API interface uses cryptographical routines (hash), does not require the document to be uploaded (only the hash) and produced the validation report for a document of any size within seconds.

    Adobe is requested to consider integrating validation functionality by providing a "push button call" to an external official validation service (such as validator.ch) in its Adobe Reader and Acrobat DC products.

15. Filling in text always messes up in strange ways

    I pay for the Adobe CC. I love all the apps but Acrobat, which is now unusable. Not because I can't figure out the interface, but because the program is so buggy as to
    be essentially unusable. Just trying to type text in a text box causes everything to go haywire and suddenly part of the text I've been typing at the bottom of the document appears all over in random places on the other pages of the document. Sometimes as I'm typing it stops working altogether and I can no longer access the text box. It will even crash the entire program and make me lose all my work. It isn't a hardware issue, because if I need more computing power than I'm running just to use acrobat then there is something seriously wrong with acrobat (maybe take the AI out if that is causing all the problems?)

    I don't want AI. I don't care about learning a new interface. I just want the **** thing to work and it doesn't.

16. Date Created is not retained when editing PDF

    On Mac at least, any save to a PDF deletes the old file and writes a new one, rather than overwriting the old file. This means that metadata such as the Date Created is lost -- it's important for me to know when certain files were received, but then also to run OCR, add comments, or make other edits to the files. This breaks the standard Mac user interface and is only done by Acrobat (not Word, Preview, TextEdit, etc.)

18. Adobe Acrobat - Continuous Release as of Sept-18-2024

    I have used every version of Adobe Acrobat for the last 20 years and I want you guys to know that I took 10 minutes to create a "user feedback" account so that I could share this feedback with you. Your latest versions of Acrobat are so counter-intuitive that I actually try to avoid creating or using PDF documents. It's obvious that you are trying to push everyone to the cloud and more services because I can't even find a "Save As" button so I can relocate and Save my PDF files.... I am an IT Consultant for several firms and I can tell you that I just can't promote Acrobat anymore... the software has become so bloated and counter intuitive.... You guys need to come back down to earth with your User Interface and features. By the way, your AI features are a waste of time.

19. highlight color change box has become tiny

    After an update 3 months ago, when I want to change the color of a text highlight or of a sticky note, the color choice box has become tiny and difficult to use (see attached screenshot).
    I use a high resolution screen (3840 x 2160 px) and this tiny box looks like an object which hasn't been re-sized for my screen
    Note: my version of Acrobat Pro is up to date and I use the "old" interface

20. Easier placement for multiple signature and initials on the same page

    As a user I sign hundreds of pages of documents a month and I need the capability to do this much quicker and in an efficient manner. Currently it takes extra clicks to place multiple signature/initials on the same page. We need to invoke the sign toolbar from the top every time.

    It will be better if we can have a similar interface as in previous version of Reader where the Signature/initial panel was on the right hand side.
